i have to be careful when i reply to posts on livejournals about religion, due to the position i hold; but when i see things like this, i have to jump in. first of all, the bible clearly states what it means to be a christian - to take Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, king of your life, and to repent of the sins you have committed, and yes, we have all sinned and continue doing so; but Jesus tells us that no sin can seperate us from his love. Acts 16 31 "They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household." That means, as soon as you truly accept Jesus into your heart, you are sealed forever as one of his children. The great commision is every Christians' repsonsiblity to spread the gospel, and if we have an opportunity to share it and choose not to, then their blood is on our hands. Now, in theory, some of what Perves had to say I agreed with, but he was very radical and mistaken on how to spread the Gospel. Perves wanted to institute Christianity into the schools. No time in history has forcing a religion on a group of people worked, and it won't work now. Christianity is about what your heart believes, and Perves' ideas go against that. Do I believe God needs to be inserted back into schools? Yes. The constitution forbids establishment of favoritism of one religion, but does not forbid God. Religion is an important part of our lives, and to pretend like it isn't important enough to be in school is rediculous. It isn't right that evolution is mandatory cirriculum, but God is not. That is a flat out injustice. well, i've used up enough space now.

i was trying to make the point about how christians believe Jesus is "the way and the life", and the "key" to heaven, that it's through Jesus that we go to heaven.
but you have made it better than i would have. i feared pissing off people, too much, i guess. but yay.
