Summary: Prince Jonghyun, ruler of the Kingdom of Carmadon had his work cut out for him already. In between taking care of the uneasy townspeople, and searching for a traitor in his midst, he must leave his kingdom in the hands of his younger brother and his royal adviser as he prepares to set out on a conquest to the Unknown World in search for a cure for the disease sweeping through the kingdoms.
The journey wouldn’t be easy. The Unknown World was riddled with shady characters: sorcerers, shape shifters, outlaws, assassins, bandits, monsters of every sort. As if that wasn’t bad enough, things get a little bit more complicated when he falls in love with someone that he should have never fallen for in the first place, a love that would bring the downfall of his kingdom.
AN;; So this is the end. I’m so sorry for taking so long with this lol. It’s been... five months? XD I quite frankly have no idea where I was going with this, and I really don’t want to go back and read this story again, so if there are any unanswered questions, just let me know.

Jonghyun wasn’t sure where he found the confidence to be standing next to Jinki about to fight a gigantic monster that lived in his nightmares. Maybe it was from Jinki, who reached up and gripped Jonghyun’s shoulder once before signaling for him to sneak around the bone dragon.
“Be careful,” Jinki said as he and Jonghyun set off. The bone dragon let out another massive roar before landing with a crash onto the training grounds, sending lightning fissures through the ground.
Jonghyun ran around it, searching frantically for any sign of weakness. He jumped over a few fissures before stopping directly behind it, sword drawn. Jinki started to draw energy in his hands before jumping up into the air and firing an ice ball at the bone dragon.
It roared angrily when it hit, staggering off to the side. Jinki could see the cracks starting to form in the bone. He formed another energy ball in the air, this time of fire. The bone dragon spit acid at him from the ground.
Jinki narrowly managed to dodge it before firing his fireball at the spot his ice ball hit. The bone dragon let out an ear splitting roar as one of its wings fell off. Jonghyun clamped his hands over his ears before the bone dragon charged at Jinki in a furious rage.
“Aim for the cracks!” Jinki shouted as the bone dragon slammed its claws into the ground, trying to crush him. Jonghyun ran after it and skidded to a stop before swinging his sword back and hammering it into a spot on its leg.
The bone dragon roared again, turning its tail towards Jonghyun. The dinosaur skull dived towards him, snapping its jaws and preparing to spit more acid. Jonghyun dived underneath it, rolling to his feet again. He struggled to stay underneath it as it thrashed around, looking for cracks in the bone overhead.
When he found one, he stopped abruptly, thrusting his sword up into the bone and dug it in, pulling it back and forth. He cursed slightly when the bone dragon moved, his grip slipping from his sword.
The monster swung around above him in agony as Jinki dived underneath it to pull Jonghyun out before it fell to the ground. “Jinki! Look out!” A burst of acid came flying from the dinosaur head. Jinki wrapped his arms around Jonghyun, wincing when the acid hit his arm and burned through the sleeve of his clothes.
There was another crack as Jonghyun’s sword dug all the way into the bone dragon’s spine. Jinki could see the spider cracks branching out in the middle of the bone dragon. A smirk curled onto his face before he pushed Jonghyun behind him.
Jonghyun suddenly heard Jinki’s voice echo around him, stronger and if possible, even more powerful than before. A ball of something was forming in his hands, getting bigger by the second. The bone dragon turned his head towards him and started to charge again, mouth opened wide.
There was a resounding ping when Jinki let go of the ball. It went flying at the monster, entering its mouth and moving straight through its body, shattering it. Pieces of broken bone piled onto the ground, and the dragon was no more.
“You broke Jinki!” Junsu screeched, stopping his spell exchange with Taecyeon. Taecyeon blasted him out of the air and pinned his shoulder to the ground with an energy arrow. Junsu hissed in pain before grabbing the arrow and pulling it out of his shoulder, dropping it to the ground.
He stood up and yelled, willing whatever energy he has left in his body. “Jonghyun, go. Take your brother and your men somewhere safe,” Jinki said, shielding Jonghyun’s body from the whiplashes of magic coming from Junsu.
Jinki stared into his eyes for a moment before looking away. Jonghyun reached a hand up and pressed it to Jinki's cheek. “You're warm."
“Now's not the time for this." He cringed slightly when a piece of magic hit him rather viciously. “Be safe," he whispered, lips brushing lightly over Jonghyun's forehead.
Jinki watched Jonghyun reluctantly make his way over to his men, taking one more glance back at Jinki before shouting orders with Minho. Jinki didn’t turn back to Junsu and Taecyeon until Jonghyun was out of sight..
“So, Jinki. What does it feel like, to destroy a kingdom single handedly?” Junsu blasted a wave of magic at him, sending him staggering back a few steps. Jinki still wasn’t used to channeling his full magic just yet. He hated to admit it, but it looked like he got rusty over the last few centuries.
“Well, technically, I didn’t destroy my kingdom. The Gods did. I just happened to be the reason why.” Jinki took a few steps towards him, only flinching slightly when a lash of magic whipped across his body.
“Technicalities.” Junsu tossed a ball of energy up and down in his hand, staring down at Jinki. Taecyeon stood behind Junsu, quietly summoning his own energy ball. Jinki sent a bolt of lightning at Junsu, making him flinch when it hit his undamaged shoulder.
“Ow. That stung a little bit,” he said, glancing down at his shoulder. His clothes were smoking slightly, but it didn’t look like Jinki did too much damage to him.
Time seemed to freeze for a moment as Junsu glanced over his shoulder at Taecyeon, then returned his attention to Jinki. His power wasn’t coming back fast enough, and he knew that Junsu knew, by the way he was smirking at him.
“Jinki. You do realize that the only thing standing in between me and the destruction of this kingdom... is you?”
--
Jonghyun gathered his men as they fought through hoards of vampir through the castle to get to the dungeons. Key was doing well on his own, fighting beside Minho. He knew they wanted to talk, but there was only so much time left.
Jonghyun glanced over his shoulder, back in the direction where he left Jinki to fight some crazed sorcerer vampir.
“Jonghyun!” Jonghyun snapped out of his daze as Key sliced through a vampir that tried to take a bite out of his shoulder.
“Daydream after we get down to the dungeons. There’s no time for you to lose your concentration here.” Key disappeared into the crowd again, shouting for whatever survivors were out in the castle to join their group to the dungeons.
Taemin and Yoseob were in the center of the group. Yoseob’s arm was so bad that he couldn’t find the strength to fight anymore. His good arm was slung over Taemin’s shoulder as he determinedly carried him towards the dungeons, careful not to jostle his bad arm.
The vampir seemed to come in less and less numbers as they delved deeper into the castle. By the time they reached the dungeons, there were only one or two left that were taken care of easily. Key pulled open the door to the dungeons and let whoever was left inside. Jonghyun stood in the door and looked around, taking note of whoever was left.
“Jonghyun!” He winced at the sound of the voice. Sekyung.
“Oh, Jonghyun! I was so worried! You’re back safe and-” Jonghyun shook his head and shoved her back as she tried to wrap her arms around him. He made his way over to Taemin and Yoseob. Taemin was looking over his wounds and tending to them as best he could.
“Stay safe, Taemin. If anything happens to me... I expect you to take care of this kingdom. Or whatever is left of it.” Taemin furrowed his eyebrows.
“How can you joke at a time like this?” Jonghyun shook his head and smiled weakly before hugging his brother one more time. he got up and left the dungeons as Sekyung tried to run after him. Key took it as his cue to shut the dungeons and lock the door behind him, hearing an indignant scream from Sekyung as he shut the door.
“I’ve always wanted to do that to her. Or kill her, but I figured it would be frowned upon,” Key said, dusting off his cloak.
“So... Why aren’t you burning in the sun?” Jonghyun asked as the two of them and Minho ran back for the area where the main battle was taking place.
“Long story. Will tell you if we survive this. Minho and I will go into the town and look for any survivors.” They split up at a fork in the castle paths. Jonghyun just hoped he would be useful, and not too little, too late.
--
Jinki staggered back a few paces as he blocked another attack from Junsu. The more he attacked, the stronger he seemed to get. Taecyeon was doing his best to distract him from whatever he could, but it wasn’t enough.
“It’s never enough, right, Jinki? No matter what it is, if you want it, it’s never enough.” Junsu still wasn’t done taunting him about the destruction of his kingdom.
“So I admit it. I wanted to know everything, and I overstepped my boundaries and got punished. This world makes me feel a little bit less guilty over that. I don’t see why you have to destroy this kingdom, though,” Jinki said with a grunt as he flung one of Junsu’s attacks back at him.
“Because that’s what is written, and that’s what will pass. And on top of that, I finally get to get rid of you once and for all. First thing I’m going to do is get rid of that precious little king of yours, Jonghyun.” Jinki’s anger flared up, and he felt a barrier break in his body. His magic was flowing a little bit easier now.
Jinki sent another bolt of lightning at Junsu, watching as he staggered in the air a bit.
“Ah, soft spot I see. I’ll make his death is nice and slow. Maybe he’ll even scream your name in agony-” Jinki broke another barrier in his body and felt his magic flooding it again. He jumped into the air and punched Junsu across the face.
“That’s it! Get angry!” Taecyeon had to take a few steps back as the two magic users in the air flared up, sending waves of energy and magic all over the place. He’d never felt more powerful beings so close to each other. He could see the air rippling.
“And now that you’re angry, we can let the real fight start! Catch me if you can, Jinki!” Junsu shouted with some maniacal laughter before shooting off towards the town. Taecyeon ran after him on foot as Jinki followed him.
--
Jonghyun jumped over broken rocks and breaks in the paths, breathing hard as he looked around frantically for Jinki and the others. He heard several explosions followed by ground quakes so severe that he had to stop moving and brace himself so he wouldn’t fall.
The closer he got to the town, the more severe the quakes were. The ground was full of fissures, and new ones were ripping open faster than Jonghyun could blink.
“Oh shi-” A figure ripped open underneath his feet, sending him falling into darkness. He managed to grab the ledge before he fell, his heart beating fast. He felt someone grab his hand and pull him back up onto solid land.
“Taecyeon. Thank you,” he said, breathing hard. The man nodded before turning back towards the town.
“I can’t keep up with them anymore. The magic is too powerful. There’s so much in the air, it would physically hurt for you or I to be standing there.” Jonghyun yelped as another figure appeared in front of him.
“What’s happening?”
“Junsu is taunting Jinki with your death. It seems as if Jinki has grown quite attached to you, for one reason or another.” Another explosion resounded, and Jonghyun saw a portion of the town leveled to the ground.
“Wait. Key and Minho are supposed to be in there!” Jonghyun shouted, his eyes wide.
“Nothing could survive in there,” Taecyeon said, “not while they’re fighting.”
Jonghyun gritted his teeth and got up, running for the town. Taecyeon watched him run off without a word. He wouldn’t try to stop him. It wasn’t his place to meddle with the affairs of the fates. It wasn’t like Jonghyun would’ve listened to him anyway.
--
There was a crash as two magical swords met. Jinki and Junsu pushed with all their strength against each other, neither one budging. Admittedly, Junsu was stronger, but Jinki was faster and seemed to think better on his feet.
Jinki twisted out of the deadlock and slashed his sword up, cutting Junsu’s face. Junsu howled in pain as he clutched his face and wiped away the flood that was starting to flow freely.
“You’re annoying me, you know that Jinki? First you break my dragon.” Junsu yelled as he hurled an energy ball at Jinki. Jinki defelcted it with his sword and flinched away from the debris that flew by him from the explosion.
“Then you have to go and meddle in things that aren’t your business. Can’t you just save yourself the trouble and die already?” Junsu deflected the energy balls that Jinki hurled at him, wincing slightly when he felt them burn his hands.
Their battled raged on. Jinki had nothing left to say, but Junsu never stopped running his mouth. His words were falling on deaf ears now, because Jinki was concentrating on getting rid of him for good.
Junsu was getting tired. He was using up too much of his magic trying to get rid of Jinki, who was only getting stronger as time passed by. His powers were underrated, if anything, in the legends. Just as he was starting to get desperate, something caught his eye.
“Oh, what have we here?” Jinki turned to see Jonghyun come running into view.
“No! Jonghyun!” Junsu gathered up whatever of his power was left, making the air around him crackle. Jinki dived for the other man as Junsu sent his attack full force at Jonghyun.
The attack hit Jinki in the chest, sending him straight into the ground. Junsu didn’t have enough magic to stay in the air anymore and fell to the ground breathing hard with a smirk on his face as Jonghyun yelled Jinki’s name.
Once the dust cleared, Jonghyun fell into the crater created by Jinki’s body and slid to his side. Junsu chuckled as he felt fingers press against his temple. Taecyeon smiled at him.
“Any last words?” Junsu closed his eyes.
“You’ve been the biggest pain in my side, ever since I was created. Does it make you happy to know that your face is the last one I’ll see before I die?” Taecyeon chuckled.
“Yes.” Junsu’s body fell forward, finally lifeless. Taecyeon glanced over to the crater and sighed.
“Jinki, Jinki. Oh my god, Jinki.” He was bleeding so much, and Jonghyun didn’t know where to start. Jinki coughed a little bit before sighing softly.
“You’re an idiot.”
“Don’t talk, you’re going to be okay. I’ll just call for some help and...” Jinki blinked a few times and mustered up a weak smile.
“We both know I’m not going to live from this.” Jonghyun shook his head. There was no way. There was no way Jinki could die from this. He was invincible, if anything showed for it, it would be his time in the Unknown World. There was no way he could die.
And he wouldn’t.
Jonghyun’s trembling fingers reached into his pocket and pulled out the small bottle of the Mithridate, the potion he set out for originally for Key and His Majesty Jiyong.
“Jonghyun... I’m beyond repair... You can’t waste that on me,” Jinki whispered. He could feel his life fading. It was foreign feeling, to feel so much pain, but he knew he was alive then, and it felt better than living eternity in the cold.
“I am not going to let you die.” He uncorked the bottle and poured half of it into Jinki’s mouth and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
