“Dongwoo, get up,” Hoya said sleepily, throwing his arm over Dongwoo’s chest. Dongwoo made a small noise of protest that was barely heard over the alarm blaring on the other side of the bed.
“Whose bright idea was it to put the alarm all the way over there,” Dongwoo croaked out, trying to blink his eyes open.
“Mine. So we’d get up on time in the morning.”
“We’re fine. Woohyun checks both houses to see which one we’re at anyway. We have some time.”
“No. He left us last time he had to search more than one house. Come on.” Hoya sat up and tugged at Dongwoo’s arm, pulling the upper half of his body off of the pillow.
“Coming, coming...” Dongwoo closed his eyes again as Hoya slid off the other end of the bed and slammed his hand down on the alarm.
“Lazy. We didn’t even do anything last night. Get dressed before he leaves us! You know he’s been in that super shitty mood for forever.” Dongwoo opened his eyes again and made his way to the edge of the bed.
“Oh yeah. How could I forget. My legs get weak getting ready for practice.” The two of them wandered into the bathroom to freshen up.
“I know he really wants to get into that school, but goddamn,” Dongwoo said, voice muffled as he brushed his teeth.
“I’m surprised you’re so calm about it,” Hoya said, grinned at Dongwoo before spitting out toothpaste.
“We’ve already applied around to other schools. Besides, if soccer doesn’t work out, there’s always dance.” Hoya gave him a slightly scandalous look.
“You’re cheating on soccer with dance? Don’t let Woohyun hear you. He might kill you.” Dongwoo rolled his eyes.
“But seriously, Woohyun’s been acting really crazy. Maybe we should talk to him. I know Sunggyu’s tried and failed miserably. I hate seeing Woohyun snap at him,” Hoya said, exiting the bathroom to change into his uniform.
“Yeah, good idea. Oh, look, Hoya!” Hoya looked up into the direction Dongwoo was pointing, and Dongwoo planted a kiss on his cheek before laughing and running off.
“Dork. I swear,” Hoya said with a smile on his face.
--
“Woohyun, slow down.” Silence from the driver’s seat.
“Woohyun.” More silence.
“Woohyun, slow the fuck down before you run over someone or kill us!” Hoya yelled, punching the back of the driver’s seat. Woohyun slammed on the brakes, sliding to a screeching stop in front of Sunggyu’s house. Dongwoo opened up the door and got out, rounding over to the driver’s seat.
“Get out.”
“What?”
“Get out. I’m driving. My driving at this point is safer than yours. Get out.”
“I’m not getting out of-”
“Shut up, and get out of the car.” Woohyun let out an angry breath before unbuckling his seatbelt. He opened the door and hit Dongwoo with it before rounding to the back seat and getting in, slamming the door closed.
Sunggyu stepped out and limped over to the car before getting into the front seat. He didn’t notice Dongwoo in the driver’s seat until he tried to buckle his seatbelt. He blinked a few times before turning around and seeing Woohyun sulking angrily in the backseat.
“Where’s the Yeol Troll?” Dongwoo asked, looking towards the house.
“He took the bus with Myungsoo. What...”
“We’ll explain later.”
--
“Woohyun. Let’s talk,” Dongwoo said as he and Hoya down on either side of Woohyun during lunch. Sunggyu decided to finish some work in the library while Sungyeol and Myungsoo disappeared to wherever it was they went, leaving the three of them alone for lunch.
“You can’t keep acting like this. Talk to us, Woohyun. We’re your best friends.” Hoya turned to face him, leaning his elbow onto the table.
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“What is it, Woohyun? Seriously. This can’t just be about the one spot left at the school. What is it?”
“It’s... Sunggyu,” he finally sighed out, burying his face into his hands.
“What about him? You two haven’t been arguing or anything right?”
“No, everything is fine it’s just... I feel like I’m being left behind, you know?” Woohyun looked up and bit his lip.
“He’s actually getting somewhere with what he wants to do with his life. He’s auditioned for schools, he’s been getting scholarship offers in the mail. He just got an acceptance letter from one of the schools he wants to go to. And lately... it just feels like he doesn’t have time for me anymore. Like he’s this big shot star, and I’m the unknown boyfriend standing next to him. He’s got all these people that know him, and he’s always busy with practice, and lessons, and... I feel so selfish for wanting him to spend all of his time with me.” Dongwoo and Hoya looked at each other with raised eyebrows.
“And you haven’t told him any of this?”
“I don’t want him to stop what he’s doing just because of my insecurities.” Dongwoo pulled his phone out from under the table and held it to his hear.
“You hear that Sunggyu?” Woohyun turned to Dongwoo with a horrified expression on his face. Dongwoo hung up his phone and smiled at Woohyun. Woohyun felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and pulled it out with shaking fingers.

we’ll talk about this later. i’ll be watching at practice today.
--
Woohyun’s mood seemed doused during practice. He didn’t say a word, just resigning to whatever Coach’s orders were. He glanced up into the stands to see Sunggyu sitting there, smile on his face. Sunggyu waved and blew him a kiss. Woohyun tried not to smile.
Dongwoo and Hoya fist bumped each other as they ran by each other on the field.
--
“You think they’ll be okay?” Dongwoo asked as their driver took them home from practice. They figured it would be best to give Woohyun and Sunggyu some privacy to sort things out. Hoya pulled his phone out to text Sungyeol and Myungsoo.
“Yeah. I mean, unless Sunggyu calls him a worthless piece of crap and dumps him dramatically, I think it can only go up from here.”
“Who’re you texting?” Dongwoo leaned over, and a bump in the road made him fall over onto Hoya’s lap. Hoya lifted up his arms so Dongwoo wouldn’t fall onto them and continued typing.
“Sungyeol and Myungsoo. Telling them to make themselves scarce so Woohyun and Sunggyu can talk.”
--
“Mom, I’m home,” Hoya yelled as he stepped into the house. His voice echoed as Dongwoo took off his shoes behind him.
“Hey, honey- Oh. Hi, Dongwoo. Nice to see you.” Hoya rolled his eyes at his mother’s reaction before heading up the stairs.
“We’re doing homework in my room, send dinner up if we’re up there too late.”
--
“You know, I think you should be nicer to your mom.”
“Whatever. She’s still trying to set me up with girls.” Dongwoo laughed. Hoya’s mom was in denial and still trying to hold on to the non-existent chance that Hoya would wake up one day and decide that he was straight.
“Still? Seriously, Hoya. I think if you just sat down and talked to her about it, she’d get it eventually. Your dad’s okay with it right?”
“My dad doesn’t care as long as I don’t bring home babies. Which is kind of impossible,” Hoya said, reaching out to grab Dongwoo’s arm and pull him closer.
“You ever think about it, though?” Dongwoo asked as he pulled his homework over.
“Think about what?”
“The future. Marriage- I mean, ‘civil unions’,” Dongwoo said, making air quotes, “and adopting kids and stuff.” Hoya blinked a few times, turning his eyes upwards.
“Yeah. Every now and then. Let’s just take this one step at a time though, huh? We’re still waiting to hear back from universities and stuff. Maybe after we graduate and have steady jobs and stuff.” Dongwoo smiled.
“It seems kind of inevitable, doesn’t it?” Hoya was confused, and it showed on his face.
“What does?”
“Us being together.” Hoya couldn’t stop the smile on his face as he leaned over to kiss Dongwoo slowly. He didn’t think he would ever get tired of being with him, not in a million, not in ten million years.
“Dongwoo. Have I told you how much I love you lately?” Dongwoo pursed his lips in thought before they turned into a smile.
“I don’t think so.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
--
The car ride back from practice was quiet. Woohyun’s driving returned to normal, and deep down, Sunggyu was glad that he didn’t have to experience his crazy driving.
Woohyun parked the car in silence before opening the door for Sunggyu and following him inside of the house. The house was dark. Sunggyu spotted a note on the table that said Sungyeol would be spending the night over at Myungsoo’s.
His mother texted him earlier, telling him that she would be home late, and that there were leftovers in the fridge for when he got hungry.
“Your mom’s going to be home late today?” Woohyun asked.
“Yeah.”
“Wanna go out for dinner then?” Sunggyu pursed his lips. It’d been a while since the two of them went out. This was probably going to be the closest thing they had to a date in a long time. This was definitely going to be a good opportunity to talk. He silently thanked Dongwoo as he shoved Woohyun towards the shower.
“We’ll go out after you shower. You smell like sweaty outside.”
“You smell like outside too!”
“Yeah, but not sweaty outside.”
--
They went to a nice little restaurant down town. Woohyun had forgotten how good Sunggyu looked in casual clothes. He stared at him from across the table and watched as Sunggyu brought his hand up to brush his bangs away from his face.
“Your hair’s getting long.” Sunggyu looked up from the menu and looked up at his bangs before blowing them away.
“Yeah. I need to get another haircut.” The waiter came by to get their order and said he would be back momentarily with their drinks. Sunggyu sat back in his seat and stared at Woohyun.
“Why didn’t you tell me that’s why you were in such a bad mood? I thought it was because of soccer.” Woohyun bit his lip.
“Soccer... yeah, it’s a big part of my life. But you know, you are, too.” Sunggyu sighed. Woohyun wasn’t the one that was being a bad boyfriend. It was him.
“I just. I want to spend so much time with you, and lately, you’ve been so busy and doing things with your life, I just. It feels like you’re leaving me behind. I’m stuck waiting for scouts to come, and there’s not even a high percentage that I could get into the school in the first pace.” Their drinks came out, and Woohyun took a long sip of his.
“Well. Go around then.”
“Go around?”
“I remember you saying something about wanting to be a chef if soccer didn’t work out, right? I think I asked you when we first started dating or something. So why not look into that? Look into culinary schools, see which ones you like, which ones offer classes on things you’re interested in learning.” Woohyun blinked a few times. He never thought about actively pursuing a career in culinary arts. It was just a fun past time.
“Maybe I should,” Woohyun said slowly. It wouldn’t hurt to try. It would definitely be nice to have a back up plan in case something happened with soccer.
“And it’s not like you’d have to stop playing soccer or something. You could join a league.” Woohyun blinked a few times before lowering his head.
“I’m sorry I’ve been so crazy lately.”
“It’s okay. I understand, really. But I’m not going anywhere. I’m not going to forget who my friends are or anything just because a lot of people know my name. We still have half the year left.” Woohyun twiddled his thumbs.
“I know, I just... I got jealous,” Woohyun said quietly. Sunggyu smiled at him fondly before reaching out and grabbing his hand.
“Don’t worry. You’re my one and only love, the father of my Woobear, the-” Sunggyu had to stop because Woohyun was laughing so hard. He laughed until he was in tears, which brought a wide smile to Sunggyu’s face.
“So, you gave birth to a teddy bear?”
“What? NO.”
“You said I was the father of Woobear. Which means you’re the mother. Meaning you’re the one-” Woohyun burst into laughter again, wiping tears from his eyes. His laughter was infectious, because Sunggyu started to laugh too. It started off as a snicker, then went to a chuckle until he starting laughing, his ears turning red from embarrassment.
“Oh my god, I haven’t laughed like that in forever,” Woohyun said as he finally calmed down. Sunggyu smiled at him from across the table.
“I like it better when you’re smiling.” Woohyun sighed a happy sigh before shooting a smile towards Sunggyu.
“I like seeing you happy too.”
“So, we’re okay now?” Sunggyu asked as their waiter brought out their food.
“Yeah. Of course. As long as you promise to come to every game this season.” Sunggyu rolled his eyes as he dug into his food.
“Like I have a choice. I like how you gave up on learning music, but I still have to learn about soccer and come to your games.” Woohyun just shrugged, his mouth full of food.
“Can we pull a Sungyeol and Myungsoo and still pretend to be fighting? Like, even worse than before, and you pretending to be mad at me and stuff? Because what Dongwoo did was sneaky. I didn’t even see his phone. He and Hoya are probably patting themselves on the back on fixing another relationship.”
“Hey, at least they didn’t use that fly paper stuff they used on Sungyeol and Myungsoo. What was that?”
“I don’t know. I just know that it was industrial strength, and nothing good ever comes with the words ‘industrial strength’.”
--
“You guys suck at faking mad,” Dongwoo said from the back seat.
“Yeah. I can practically feel the love radiating from every pore of your bodies.” Hoya rolled his eyes and sat back in the seat, scooting over for Myungsoo.
Sungyeol squeezed his way into the car and sighed.
“Yeah. I think you guys need more work on your fake angry. Right, Myungsoo?”
“What? Why? Don’t we have enough people that can mess with peoples’ minds?”
