Mom and I met Exene before the show and she remembered us from the last concert! We didn't talk for long, but we did get our picture taken with her.

Fortune's Flesh were pretty good, but they were missing their lead guitarist, who was apparently lost in the parking lot. During the second-to-last song in their (abnormally short) set, the guitarist turned up and all of a sudden their mood turned very icy.

The other opening band was called Knuckel Drager. They refer to their style as instrumental surf-metal and they remind me of the songs that The Plugz did for the Repo Man soundtrack. They wore wigs and Halloween masks when they played, struck many rock-star poses, and mostly didn't talk. There were almost no breaks in between songs, and when there were, Knuckel Drager pointed to random people in the audience, threw bottle caps at each other, and played Evel Knievel sound bites. It was very surreal and very awesome. I managed to get their setlist after the show. (I took a lot of pictures, but their lighting was very erratic so a lot of them came out completely dark.)

The Original Sinners were much more accessible. They covered two X songs ("Some Other Time" and "Year One") and one Auntie Christ song ("I Don't"). The Original Sinners guitarist, Jason, also Exene's husband, played a lovely glittery gold guitar that Knuckel Drager gave to them as a wedding present. And, well, what can I say? It was Exene Cervenka. I really can't wait for X to tour again.

In other news:
George W. Bush: "In my first act of bipartisan outreach since the election, I shared with [Nancy Pelosi] the names of some Republican interior decorators who can help her pick out the new drapes in her new offices."

Because she couldn't possibly have a substantial agenda that might actually be more important than pretty drapes. Har, har, har.

music, rain
