I just posted this comment in response to this thread in the EGL community:

Discussion: what you don't like in lolita...

Although I haven't been to a single meetup, I have only worn my Loli for myself (to work and on an airplane). I have, however, been creating and sewing like mad because I enjoy it!

Things that don't bother me:
* JSKs without a blouse -- I live in Texas and it has been over 100 degrees for two weeks. Enough said.
* Ballerina flats -- I cannot wear heels. My feet swell and are painful if I wear (most) heels for too long. Embellishing them can always make them better! A clip-on bow can do wonders.
* Cosplay Lolitas -- I saw the most amazing Naruto & Kakashi Lolitas at A-kon this year! They were so amazing! you could tell that they works really hard on their outfits.

Things that I don't like:
* Chuck T's (converse) with Loli -- Don't get me wrong, I own over 20 pairs, but I would never wear them with my Loli. I still  my Chucks and I can't have enough. (totally want the cupcake ones)
* Strict Lolitas -- I know there are always going to be people on both sides of the strict-casual spectrum, but please be nice about it. Always have something nice to say, please! (This applies to real-life too!)
* Size Limitations for Brand Clothing -- I'm not a big girl, but I'm not little either. The best example is that I am right in the middle of Bodyline's regular-sized line and their queen-sized line. It is hard for me to find Brand items in my size, so I make or adapt my own.

And a little bonus... Not quite Lolita, but definitely Victorian! This is a picture of my mother (far left), my aunt (far right) and some of their friends all dressed up for Step Back in Time in Silverton, CO. This picture was taken several years ago. I have already "borrowed" her black parasol and I am going to swipe her white one before this month's Potluck & Stroll!

everything else loli
