There were once two young boys who liked to play,
Who liked one another and wanted only to play,
But their mothers didn’t like each other and
Prevented them from even knowing one
another. De-socializing them
from childhood expression.
They could only think,
'If I only had a dog'
Don’t ask me why, I’m not them.
Two mothers who were not friends
Then grew up to become two lonely men
With overprotecting women, who loved them
Yet prevented them from being men who leave
Their mothers, having to decide between it and them.
Mothers who soon became a burden to them and so grew
Only to resent them. In their hearts they yearned to play sports,
But never got picked by either team, never reaching out to other men
Who ostracized them for being too feminine afraid to stick their necks out
Putting themselves at risk and being hurt, and always left behind,
And they never went to parties where they never were invited.
Yet they were devastated by the people who they trusted
Those sad young men, like young giraffes, who needed
To push back against the herd, yet were never heard
To find their own way in the wilderness of the desert
Of life. Trophy husbands kept in cages in a world
That has become a zoo, because by instinct,
They felt safe to be restrained to be around
Strong women. They could only think,
If I only had a dog. ~psp
