The Turks have a parable:

God made an ass and said to him, "You're going to be a donkey, you're going to carry heavy loads on your hump and you're going to work from dusk till dawn. You'll eat grass and you'll be stupid enough. You will live fifty years.
"Fifty years is too long for that kin”d of life. Please give me no more than twenty.”
And so it was.

God created a dog and said to it, “You'll be man's friend, and you'll guard his home and eat his scraps. And you'll live for 25 years.”
"Lord, I can't stand so many years of a dog's life. Ten would have been enough for me.”
And so it was.

God created a monkey and said to it, “You're a monkey. You'll be jumping from branch to branch for the rest of your life. You're going to make people laugh with your idiotic grimaces. You will live for 20 years.”
"Making faces like a clown for 20 years in a row is terrible. I guess I wouldn't want to live longer than ten.”
And so it was.

After all, God then created man and said to him, ”You're human, the only sentient creature on the planet. Using your intellect, you will learn about the world, and you will be able to dominate the universe. You will live for 20 years.”
"God, 20 years of life is so short. Please give me the 30 years that the donkey gave up, the 15 years that the dog didn't need, and the 10 years that the monkey didn't need.”
And so it was.

And so, God created a man who lives as a man for 20 years, then marries and plows for his family for 30 years like a donkey, and for the next 15 years lives like a dog, guarding the house and the children, and eating the scraps after them. For the rest of his years, he grimaces like a clown, entertaining his grandchildren.
And so it was.
