Good Morning !
It's War on the Homefront!
Dog and raccoon, cat and rat,
Raccoon walking on the roof,
Water leaking down the spout
Neighbourhood dog barks at
The garbage truck picking up
Refuse, slippery rats
Invisible cats,
That elusive mole
Who digs up the lawn
At 5 am, leaving a minefield
Of potholes, from multiple burrowings
Leaving a war zone of foxholes for the crows
Turning the sod, looking for grubs, earthworms
Surface in the rain, the slugs come back again
From hiding, cold and cloudy again, unsubsiding..
I wonder when light will return, turn the corner in
This winter season, 3 more months ahead, maybe snow.
For now I'm simply hibernating, with the fire all aglow
Trying to stay warm out of harm's way. ~psp
