This Old Bull & The Electric Fence (poem)

Dec 22, 2023 18:48

We like to look at ourselves in mirrors
We like to lock ourselves in pens,
Are we the only creature who locks ourself in
A box at night. Four grey walls shut out the world
Protect us from the ways of wolves, outside
Longing for windows, longing for light
Separating walls keep us blind
Electronic surveillances keep us behind invisible fences
They say you cannot go through the eye of a needle
If you are a camel, or a beetle, or a bird
Yet the bird men of Alcatraz inculcate,
Feathers plucked - crawling in cells.
Trapped in a dungeon, see prison planet.
Lost in our dreams in the night, caught
Unless you jump the line, high enough,
Lost his balls, jumping the last fence.
How high? Jupiter? Venus?
The crescent moon? Taurus?
Who decides? Free will?
Those we might prey upon
Who are not locked up in this cell
Might trespass against us
Or end up in hell. ~psp
