Today's a Holiday, even though it's not. Saturday was 'Canaday', or should I say "Indigenous Reconciliation"?
There were fireworks, but I missed them. The full supermoon was enough to keep my interest.
Natives call it a Buck Moon because the antlers of male deer (bucks); also known as Feather Moulting Moon (Cree) and Salmon Moon, a Tlingit term indicating when fish returned to the area and were ready to be harvested. Other indigenous peoples refer to it as Berry Moon (Anishinaabe), Moon When the Chokecherries are Ripe (Dakota), Month of the Ripe Corn Moon (Cherokee), Raspberry Moon (Algonquin, Ojibwe), Thunder Moon (Western Abenaki) and Halfway Summer Moon (also Anishinaabe). via
