"Social media companies" that remove posts they deem offensive could face fines, Poland’s justice
minister said on Friday, as a government that allied itself with US President Donald Trump enacts a
move it says will guarantee free speech of primarily conservative voices.

The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, which has a conservative Catholic social agenda, argues that
big tech companies exercise a dangerous level of control over public debate, censoring opinions out of
line with their own liberal world view. Essentially the progrom is being used to censor conservative
views.
The term "Social media companies" in itself is misleading, since the corporations partaking in social
network platforms to mine for public and private data, are self-regulating private companies masking
as public platforms, which technically, is a form of phishing.
Herein Lies the Alternative :
In Viet Nam, platforms like Facebook and YouTube have become hunting grounds for government censors and state-sponsored trolls.
And the companies aren't just letting it happen: they're increasingly complicit.
Amnesty International's new report, "Let us Breathe!”, documents the systematic repression of peaceful online speech in Viet Nam.
Through dozens of interviews with activists, lawyers and journalists from Viet Nam, we've investigated the widespread “geo-blocking” of content deemed critical of the authorities. At the same time, groups affiliated to the government deploy sophisticated online campaigns on the platforms to harass everyday users into silence and fear.
