VPN vs Ad Blocker

I tried Vivaldi and Brave on suggestion by musiuu but it doesn't seem to have a proper ad block, they do
somewhat, but each has its quirks. It also felt less robust than Opera which has a lot of personal settings
that can shut off unwanted memory laden features like background images, etc.

So I'm back on Opera and it is slow loading pages, because I think I chose the VPN option, so now I have to
find where to shut that off to speed up the browser. VPN is a virtual private network, which extends a private
network across a public network, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks
as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network.

But the ad block is excellent on it. Encryption is a common, though not an inherent, part of a VPN connection.
So, what's the point? With the amount of corporate interference online these days, we have no control over
our own identity anymore, when we have to give out personal data just to use some bullshit social network.

One would think that all this security crap would have been worked out by your service provider, ie. Telus,
but if corporate Google and FB and banking systems can be breached, then what hope have we individuals?

I don't think there seems to be one simple answer. Six of one half dozen of another... they are either tracking
you or blocking you or you are blocking them. Take your pick.
