In Canada it used to be called Bay Day because the bay had a one day sale in November before Xmas (apparently that includes Indians too if they have money), but the big box stores got greedy and made a pact with Diablo and called it Black Friday, the day the slave ships landed in Boston Harbour, and they don't even have special sales for black people, like maybe stuff should be free for one day for black people so they don't have to break into big businesses to pay the rent and buy food and liquor..
I think if you co-opt the word Black it should reflect what it implies!
We used to buy flannel and wool Hudson's Bay blankets, mukluks and snowshoes like the voyageurs used in the fur trade. Great for street people for the coming winter. Now it's all furniture and electronics! Baah!! Who needs more baggage?
I think Black Friday is more about all humans as debt slaves than it is about trade and commerce.
