America at the Crossroads - An Allegory for Modern Times

The arborists were cutting down an old dead tree from our front yard today, so we left for the day, just to have peace and quiet from the chainsaws
and the wood chipper. After having breakfast we did a little last minuter shopping for Christmas for the grandkids. Then we were looking for a
movie to take in, but nothing interested us. I came across this in the cross-hairs. Not sure how good it is, I'm no longer into fairytales. We've
had enough of that the past 5 years... but here's the gist of this. (Of course we wanted to find a matinee with some classic drama or comedy) No such thing.

Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz.
After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.

Wicked, the movie, is a simple examination of good and evil that makes clever allusions to other such works. “Are people born wicked or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?” Glinda asks in a wide-eyed riff on Malvolio-one of literature’s best villains-from Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night. Later, there is a more sinister reference to Orwell when Dr. Dillamond flips his chalkboard to begin a lesson and someone has written, “Animals should be seen and not heard.” The Wicked Witch of OZ.

A vivid reimagining of the classic The Wizard of Oz, Wicked spotlights the untold stories of Oz's most famous (or infamous) characters, namely the Wicked Witch of the West and her unlikely friend, Glinda the Good Witch. The show follows green-skinned star Elphaba from birth to college and through the life-changing events which eventually label her "wicked," introducing spoiled rich girl Glinda, local prince and heartthrob Fiyero and even the Wizard of Oz himself, a troubled man very unlike the one you may remember. As Elphaba, a passionate political activist if there ever was one, fights injustice and seeks to undo the mistakes of the past, dark secrets, and personal tragedies shape the history of Oz, paying homage to the classic Wizard of Oz story while simultaneously changing fans' understanding of it forever. A cautionary tale about love, friendship, and trust, Wicked effortlessly reveals that there are indeed two sides to every story.-Broadway.com
