Way too much to get in this post, but this part is pretty cool
So Ms. Mem has been hitting the books lately. Let me explain how this goes. She disappears upstairs to the studio and reemerges to either ask me to be quiet or for sustenance. So I went to spin jam last night. It was very much happening. Noah and Aileen were cute as usual (damn...Noah is getting fucking SICK on the poi. Fucker!). Adana and Rodon were there, having done their staff class with Andres, and the usual group of newbs, regs, and irregulars. Its getting pretty damn crowded there, but unlike IK most of the people are there to spin. So at perhaps 10:15 I noticed this one girl I hadn't seen before with this huge grin plastered on her face. She was watching everybody and somewhat awestruck. Awwww....a newbie! Prisna and I were spinning next to each other and this girl was sort of looking from one of us to the other and just smiling like hell. So I walked up to her and asked how long she'd been spinning. She put her hands to her ears and shook her head. Oh...music is too loud and she can't hear. Then she put her hands to her mouth and shook her head. Oh...wait...okay, she's deaf. Cool. So I sort of pantomimed to her to show me her shit. She gestured 'no' and that she wanted to watch me. Fuck that, dude...show me your shit. So she pantomimed that it was her first time spinning and that she just came up from LA. Okay...cool. So I showed her the basics (forward pulse, reverse pulse, each in split time) and she nails them. Ah...you have talent, young padawan. Fine: butterfly. Nails it. Underhand butterfly. Nails it. Split time butterfly. Nails it. Split time under hand butterfly. WTF? At this point Prisna is watching with this sort-of disbelieving expression on her face. So now Prisna takes an interest in her and starts showing her threading the needle. She didn't even get two pulses out when the girl nails it. o_0 . Now Aileen is watching. Underhand butterfly. Nails it. Now everybody standing around is watching. Prisna walks up to me and says, "This girl is a genius. Her spacial comprehension is amazing" No shit. I show her under-the-leg thigh wrap. Nails it. Now I'm walking around warning people that there is a new gun in town. Not only was she hitting everything within 60 seconds of seeing it, she is doing it without the benefit of communication. By this point everybody in the whole space was watching this development. It was damn near spooky. Her friend Nina walks up to me and starts translating for us. This girl is named Shae, is only up for a few days from Lalaville, and is heading back. NOOOOOOOOOOO! My girlfriend needs to see this! This girl will be doing waist wraps within a week. I swear, I saw the hand of god in this event last night. Not because she can't hear, but because she has the most raw talent I've ever seen in any spinner, bar none.
