Ino is vain. All throughout the series, Ino can be seen changing her appearance quite often. Among the girls her age, she's the one with the most number of hairstyles shown. During her first days in the Academy, her hair's shoulder-length which grew to waist-length before she cut it during her fight with Sakura in the chunin exams. She then wore it in a bun and before Part I ended, her hair is already neck-length. In Part II, it's back to waist-length. Her constant efforts on dieting also gives way to this trait of hers as she's always seen trying to lose weight, convinced that guys like thin girls. In a filler episode, she even told Naruto after a failed mission that she'll continue dieting so she can find the right guy for her. This vanity usually stems from her perpetual desire to have boys like her as she's usually seen thinking about them.
Her oozing confidence should also be a reason for this vanity. Since she knows that she looks good and that she's able to carry herself, Ino takes great care of her appearance. She's outspoken and frank and she's not afraid to speak her mind. Her personality is viewed as domineering and loud, one of the reasons Shikamaru is reluctant to approach women. Before, she even suggests that Chouji should lose weight, unaware that he's fat because it's needed for his jutsu. In her team, Ino tends to boss the others around, though she clearly cares for them, as shown by her relief when Chouji survived near fatal injuries. Shikamaru, despite thinking of most girls as "troublesome", typically offers no resistance, being unwilling to deal with how she reacts if she is unable to have her way. Asuma recognized this control she has over the others, and, while dying, told her to look after Chouji and Shikamaru, and ensure that they didn't get into trouble. She is also kind, if not also a bit feisty. In The Fourth Shinobi war, Ino has become more fiercely bold and confident, heading towards Darui's forces without a flinch. Even after being told by Shikamaru how powerful the Gold and Silver brothers were, she was completely unfazed by what he said and even told her teammates to man-up when they started to waver.
With this in light, Ino's a good friend. She had always been like that to Sakura who she had helped a great deal to gain her confidence. She convinced her that hiding the size of her forehead was pointless, and gave her a ribbon to draw attention elsewhere, suggesting that Sakura had great potential, but had yet to reach it. She even warded off some kids who were picking on her by scaring them with "poisonous" flowers. They were best friends until Sakura became attracted to Sasuke, and found out that Ino was attracted to him as well. Sakura then ended their friendship, hurting Ino in the process so she could compete with Ino for his affection. To prove Sakura's still a good friend to her, Ino later made friends with her again during the Chuunin Exams, but they are still considered rivals by many. She was even the one who lead her team into protecting the lone Sakura from a vicious assault by the Sound Trio; Dosu, Zaku and Kin during the exams in the forest. In her team, Ino had always been an encouraging member. There was a time that she gave Chouji some encouragement before the rescue mission that he and Shikamaru were given, mostly on girls and his weight. During the Fourth Shinobi War, Team 10 confronts Asuma and he comments on how much they have grown before they start fighting. Despite Ino's attempts to encourage him, Chouji still has difficulty fighting Asuma. As Asuma is about to attack Chouji, Ino pushes him out of the way. Keeping to the promise she made to Asuma, Ino has resolved to put her life on the line to protect her teammates and friends no matter what.
Strengths:
Mental: Ino has shown to possess a great level of intelligence and perception; this was proven when she was in the Chuunin Exams and cleverly used her hair to make a chakra rope to bind Sakura. She was also the top graduating in the academy tied with Sasuke and Shino, and in the anime, she was able to tell a person's occupation by glancing at the condition of their hands, a skill proven useful when Ino went to identify Genno's body and noticed immediately that the corpse wasn't a carpenter or a ninja. Also, during Pain's invasion, she was able to conclude that Pain's real body must be around the village for his technique to work, since it was similar to her clan's.
Emotional: Her confidence and pride always help her into doing her best, too. Knowing she's better than Sakura during the Chuunin Exams helped her think straight on what to do against her opponent while daunting her that she doesn't have any original techniques of her own. Her headstrong attitude also propels her to be at her best and this is when her domineering side becomes useful. During the Three Tails Arc, while initially having some difficulty handling the sealing technique, her refusal to be outdone by Sakura pushed her to keep her composure. When Chouji was reluctant to battle their former revived sensei, Ino helped him put himself together just like she promised, taking the initiative to use her technique on him to help him.
Physical: Ino has also displayed sensor-like abilities in the past. Seeing as how all known members of her clan are sensors, it is likely she is one as well. In the Chuunin Exams, her taijutsu was rather poor, on par with Sakura's, however, during the Fourth Shinobi World War, her taijutsu skills had improved greatly, to such an extent that when she took over Chouji's body she was able to fight evenly with her former sensei when they clashed and by entering two Zetsu's mind and using them for combat against their former sensei. Ino excels in the techniques of her clan, which are primarily focused around mind-affecting techniques such as the Mind Body Switch Technique, a jutsu predominantly used for reconnaissance and espionage, that allows the user to briefly possess someone and control that person's actions. She has also been shown to be able to use this technique on animals, such as a hawk to act as a spy. Ino had also learned medical ninjutsu during the gap in time between Parts I and II. The anime shows that Ino trained in medical ninjutsu alongside Sakura under Tsunade's supervision. Ino has proven to be skilled enough to be able to tell the severity of an attack with just a glance. With the knowledge of plants and flowers she gained in her family's flower shop, she also has the capability to create herbal medicines. She has also gained better chakra control because of her study in medical techniques.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Her Yamanaka clan techniques aren't always fool proof. Despite many people thinking that their techniques are unbeatable, she can still be forced out of the body if her opponent is physically very strong or has a strong enough will. Her body, too, is left vulnerable until she cancels the technique. This is proven by how the villain her team was trying to restrain in the Naruto Shippuuden Movie 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire escaped her grasp when he was stubborn enough not to get caught by the technique.
Emotional: Being a girl, Ino's still susceptible to her feelings more than an average shinobi is. Her feelings for Sasuke has gotten in the way of a deeper and better relationship with Sakura even if their bitterness and petty squabbles towards each other had proven to be a good stepping stone in improving themselves. She even cried when Sasuke was declared an international criminal, showing that she still cares for him despite his descent into darkness, if not her vulnerable feelings towards someone she should have long forgotten.
Mental: Her vanity and girly pet peeves get in the way with her shinobi duties too. There was an episode wherein she went with Sakura to examine a dead body of a supposed carpenter/ninja and was initially grossed out by the idea.
