by Kim Ki-duk is a very Chines film. Not just because when a young boy escapes from home he takes with him nothing, but a two-feet large stone statue of Buddha, but more because of a very specific understanding of time: unlike the common western belief, that the time is an integral part of our lives, which we entirely posses and organize according to our priorities, eastern culture treats it as something, that exists rather asside of human lives and has to be taken and accepted as it is.
The narrative flows smoothly, as seasons of the year change each other, and as the leafs change their color from green to gold, the entire life from the very beginning until inescapable end is passing.
