OMG!! We just booked our tickets to visit govannen!!!!

I'm going to San Francisco!!!!!

Sadly Sally can't make it :( so it's just going to be me and whatthebananas. Alone in an aeroplane for 11 hours... ok, so Sally may have made the right decision...

I've never been to America before, and I haven't seen govannen in soso long, and I'm so so so excited!! The exclamation ( Read more... )

WHAT WHAT! SQUEEEEEE!!!! :D :D Why does no-one keep me informed of what's going on!! I hadn't realised all was happening already, I was going to make suggestions and had heard nothing and was hoping you guys could still come and YAY! You ARE coming!! We shall make plans! :D

Who are you flying with? I was going to say that virgin were very good, but too late now! And I feel duty-bound to warn you that it can be cold & damp in the winter (which you'll be used to, of course, but it's not so much with the hot in winter, alas) :( Still lots to do though! All is good! I'm so so so glad you guys can cooooome! Which you may have guessed by the exclamation marks etc...

Did Kat see my reply (can't remember if it was facbook or lj) to one of her messages - I was saying that while I have got my room over xmas and I'm not expecting roomie to be here, it may be easiest for us all just to stay somewhere cheap in SF? Could be just a bit easier if we're gonna be there most days, and esp for getting home in the evening etc. Though if there's only three of us we're less stretched for space in my room, but then it is pretty tiny, and hmmm, I shall ponder. And I also asked whether it's mainly really San Francisco you want to see, or if there was anywhere else you were hoping to visit or what?

'Tis sad about the lack of Sally-ness though :( But har, you two have 11 hours on a plane together. ALONE. :P

Hallo! Kat (who was doing the organising thing) claims she kept you informed - clearly this is not infact the case, so sorry about that! I think we first found tickets for £406 and were checking and organising and stuff, and then we looked again and saw they'd gone up to £425, and were like 'yikes we must book now!' hence the lack of actual planning, so I apologise again, and really hope those days are ok for you, cos it's kinda too late now!

Kat said you mentioned about possibly staying in a hostel in SF instead, which would be awesome too, I think we're prrtty much ok for whatever you want to do. We saw details online about day trips to yosemite which look pretty cool, other than that we're pretty easy - we shall research and see, but if you have any suggestions you are our tourguide and we will do as you cammand ;)

I'm so excited now, I can't wait to see you!! oh, and we're going by British Airways cos they have the crazy cheap, and we are big fans of that! We're cool with the cold and damp as well, and it means that I won't have to pack 2 different sets of clothes when I leave Bristol, and of course for you I would suffer through any sort of weather ;) xxxx

Aheh, never mind - it's good you got it booked before it went up anymore, and those dates are absolutely great so all is good!! Yes, so plans are needed! Um, well obviously it would be super-economical to stay in my room, but it would be verrrry cramped even with only three, and I'm not 100% certain with the roomie's doing, so I think a hostel in SF could well be easiest - we should get booking on that as things will prob fill up soon for new year! I shall have a look, and if you guys see anything that sounds good, point it this way and I can make suggestions about locations & suchlike. Daytrips to Yosemite - if you guys were desperate to do one, it is sort of doable, but my parents (who have been, I haven't yet) said they wouldn't recommend it unless we were planning to ski... I think a lot of it gets roads closed off and stuff due to the snow! Also the daytrips are quite expensive for what works out as four hours in the park, once you've driven 4 hours there and then another 4 hours back, so I don't know what you think. I think there'll be a lot going on in SF though, hopefully they'll have some sort of New Years event, I shall have to investigate...

And BA should be fine, and crazy cheap is always good! And I'm totally doing you a favour with only having to pack one set of clothes!! :D xxxx

Glad it's all ok for you! Would have been a quite terrible if you's said 'well, actually guys I'm in Honolulu then...' or similar. Please don't go to Honolulu, or at least, not without me!

But yes, a hostel in SF does sound the way to go, I will totally get researching nad set Kat on the case too. I'm guessing this time of year really isn't the best time to see Yosemite so I think we're ok if you don't think that's the best idea. It'll be fantastic if there's New Years stuff happening though, and we can investigate museums and such like too. Not to mention I'm going to have a strict and non-negotiable shopping quota that's going to have to be met over the week ;)

Oh wow, it hasn't quite sunk in that it's really happening! How're things over there atm? I'm guessing it was pretty sad to say goodbye to your parents, but you mentioned your bro is going to be in america soonish right? Mid terms done and dusted now too??

I promise, if I go to Honolulu you're coming with me!

And excellent, I shall get researching too and we shall hopefully find something awesome/cheap! There are museums a-plenty, I can assure you! And I'm sure Macys or Bloomingdales and suchlike will satisfy the shopping quota! ;) Oooh, I really am so excited! I can't wait! :D

It was a bit sad to say goodbye to the parents, I'm really hoping they can get coming out in the spring sorted! And not least for the huge increase in knowledge of Berkeley restaurants! Har, I managed to get a reservation for Chez Panisse while they were here, it's the most famous restaurant in town and the menu changes daily! It was most awesome! Rob's gonna be here for the second half of November, sadly timed so that I'll be away for a few days at a friend's for Thanksgiving, which is a shame seeing as it must be the only time I've actually been away! I'll still have the rest of the time he's here though. And midterms are very briefly done and dusted, until the beginning of November! *sob* How are things going in Bristol??

yo, so awesome to speak to you the other day, and your cards arrived today! Our lovely halloween card is now stuck to the fridge, and I fear the name on the envelope may have caused our poor postman to find us even weirder than he already did!

Bristol is killing me with the workload, but your sounds way scarier methinks. Maybe I need some studygroups-and-cookies to help me. We had wagamamas today as our 2 4 1 vouchers expire this week sometime and I had amai udon which was taaaasty, and a coconut icecream thingy which just about finished me off! Oh wagamammas how you slay me... Chez Panisse sounds slightly more exciting though, I must admit! How is the food btw? I#'m assuming all your weird hippy stuff is easy to get?? ;)

Excellent, I'm glad everything arrived safely! :D And you know I just want to scare the postman, he'll totally love me for it...

And scary workloads do suck rather! Though I don't doubt that Bristol has managed to pile a scary amount on you already, they are rather mean like that! I did have a study group the other day, with the most amazing brownies EVER that someone's mum had made. There was a huge tray of them, and it may have been depleted somewhat... And I got that 2 for 1 email from the wag too - it did make me wonder whether you guys would be going - so jealous, I do miss wagagmamas! Can't complain about Chez Panisse though! And it's easy to get crazy food, there are a range of lactase tablets in all the pharmacies, and there's soy milk a plenty where I live! The many joys of hippy Berkeley!

Yay for Berkeley! It is very far away from all the fires and stuff in California right? Because they look super scary...

The Brownies sound awesome, clearly they were needed for brain food! We had pancakes this morning for brunch (get us!). Well, it was supposed to be Brunch , but I'm kinda hingry for lunch now, so maybe it was more of a late breakfast... Have you had american style pancakes yet? Are thry good? I feel the need for a pancake tour of the world. Like in the OC..!

Oooh, and I totally spoke chinese to Jingjing's mum the other day! And she understood me! Well, she laughed at me, but she got what I meant dammit!

Anyway, how are you?? ;) xxx

Yup, far away luckily, and now I see why people were so happy a few weeks ago when we had a storm - it reduced the fire risk. I've certainly never been happier to have got my first choice uni and not second choice San Diego, classes have been cancelled and they're three miles from the evacuation zone, can't even go outside as the air's so thick with smoke - it's just raining ashes. Even here we can see smoke on the horizon as it's getting blown up the coast. The fires are calming though I think, so hopefully the worst is over. So many of my friends come from SoCal and have family or friends that have lost their houses, someone's pets died in the fire, stuff like that, so it's all not good for them :(

I'm alright though, but starting to prepare again for the next round of midterms, while juggling projects, homeworks, a life and goodness knows what else! This last week has been overly busy/stressful, could really do with a week off lol! Especially as we've now finished week 9 of the semester, and still have six to go...

And I have had American pancakes, they're good! I'm totally up for a pancake tour of the world! :D And good work with the Chinese! I should really be learning Japanese with my Japanese roommate, but have never quite found the time... xxx

I'm so glad, although obviously not for the poor people who's families are caught up in it :(

They have *more* midterms?? But... the middle of the term is over now surely! That's just mean!! The pics of your halloween costume were fab by the way, you look fantastic! We didn't even get trick or treaters here, so we ate the choclate ourselves... OOh, but we do have bonfire night on the downs on saturday, so I'm looking foreward to candyfloss and sparklers and fireworks and bonfires and all sorts of lovely things!

I have no idea why LJ didn't inform me of this comment at the time, but oooh FBI! That did look cool - I'd've watched it! But I guess it does lack some of the 'but she's so cool and like a spy AND in high school!' rather than that actually being her job. But still, a cool job! And I want to know what happens next in the trailer, dammit!

Yeah, it does loose some of the original awesomeness, much like her being at uni did, but I'm fairly sure we would have watched in regardless, and once it got into it's stride the new direction may have helped.

Ah well, I guess we'll never know!!

Yup, here midterms don't mean 'exams in the middle of the term' like you'd think. Noooo, they mean 'let's have many exams and spread them out over the entire term, FOR FUN!' Very mean. So at first, it was like constant exams stress, but you can't really do that for an entire term, so now I'm just not so worried about exams! Har, so I doubt I'll do so well on this next lot :P Especially as I've got one Saturday morning and am still planning on going to the I-house masquerade ball the night before... Hmm...

But oh! I miss bonfire night, it's so sad! D: People are slightly more touchy about talk of blowing up the government here :S But thanks about the costume - it was v fun to wear!! We're so dressing up for halloween next year! So it must be getting pretty cold back home, if it's nearly bonfire night? Always need to wrap up well for that!

I don't think you missed much except lots of drama at the fireworks! Luckily not too serious, but obv we didn't get the full display after that.

We had a bit of a cold snap, but it's warmed up a bit recently. Is it still pretty warm and sunny there? I'm guessing so with the fires and all!

Best of luck with the even more exams anyway, I guess at least if your less stressed because you have so many that's got to be something right?? Wow for the masquerade ball though! We might be going to the Kempo masquerade too, so we'll have to compare masks! xxx

Whoa, that sounds kinda scary! Glad no-one was too seriously injured! At least I didn't miss too much though!

The weather here's still pretty good, I've just been out in jeans and a strap top the last few days and been warm enough, but last week was kinda foggy and chilly, so a jumper was definitely needed.

Thanks, I think I'll need the luck for these exams! The downside of being less stressed about them is that I haven't started studying for them yet, whereas I started pretty early for the first lot!

And ooh, how's the Kempo going? It's cool it's having a masquerade ball!

ALSO, one of my professors spelt the word 'accurate' as 'acqurate', and I thought that was ODD.
