Chiltern Rail say "Don't buy tickets from Chiltern"

Jan 26, 2011 21:22

Went to Stratford Upon Avon over weekend, blah, Shakespeare, blah, in-laws Christening blah.

Bought train tickets in advance from Chiltern Railways, turned up at Marylebone on Sat morning. No trains, routine engineering work. We ask at Enquiries and woman tells us we have to get a later, slower train to Warwick and make our own way from there, tough luck, Chiltern accept no responsibility. I point out that there was nothing on the website about this. She asks if we bought the tickets from Chiltern and then tells us that we should have got them from Network Rail because Chiltern's website sells you tickets for trains that aren't going to run; Network Rail would have told us about the engineering work. My fault for buying the tickets from the company that she works for.

It is claimed that Chiltern are the best Train Operating Company in the UK. That may be true, but they are fucking useless shit. Perhaps all the others are even worse?

So, if you want to be ripped off by a shower of scum, buy your tickets here: http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/buy-online
