First of all, thank you so much in advance!!!!!! I am looking forward to September!
For artists: I don't know a lot about art, but I know when I am moved by a piece. So please, tell me a story with your work! In terms of mediums, I haven't been impressed/moved by multimedia (video/actual pictures) art yet.
For writers: I would rather not tell you how I want you to portray our lovely characters, as I'm always picking up new insights from other writer's portrayals. However, here are a few of my dislikes:
I wouldn't want to receive stories involving horror/dark, explicit violence, on-screen sex (I don't mind knowing that they are intended for the bedroom and/or later see them wake up in bed), adultery, slapstick comedy, excessive vulgar language, underage relationships, Ron!bashing, male pregnancy, out of character, or Dead!Severus/Hermione fics. Also, I'm Lutheran--church bashing fics might tick me off a bit....(the Apprentice and the Necromancer by JunoMagic is an excellent fic--I don't consider it to be church bashing).
I'm not a huge fan of time-turner fics or stories set in another time or location. Please keep it in canon through HBP, and preferably most of DH. I'm a big fan of canon, and then I ship HGSS on the side. :P As I said before, extremely out of character SS and HG doesn't sit well with me. Both characters to me are extremely private, and so obviously there is some amount of their character that we don't know. Still, use the canon characters' personalities as a base, please. For instance, I don't agree with the stories that suggest that Snape manipulated his memories for Harry and didn't love Lily.
In the sign-up post I wrote: "No cliches or parodies, please! I love simple, beautiful stories and (sometimes) extremely well-crafted conspiracies. Intelligent dialogue a must, and witty exchanges are always delightful! I like angst, but usually if it is resolved in some way."
Hopefully this isn't too restrictive! Scatterlogic's bottom line in the "Now is the time" post sums up my feelings as well. Once again, thank you so much!
