[Character name] Kaidou Kio
[Age] early to mid twenties (Never explicitly stated)
[Canon] Loveless
[Point in time taken from canon] Current Chapter
[Background] Not much has been revealed about Kio’s childhood thus far, though it is clear that the Kaidou family is an upper-class family. However the family is run by females and only females are permitted to live in the main house past a certain point. At some point Kio was married and had a daughter, though he was not aware of the daughter until some time after she was born. He was obviously fairly young since he states that Shikiko is close to him in age. His wife and daughter are the only two that Kio uses formalities and titles with, though he seems estranged from both.
Kio is first seen in the series as being a university student who is studying art, specifically painting alongside Agatsuma Soubi. Not long after Soubi had entered the University he was infamous for his attitude as well as the marks and scars that were on his body. Kio liked his art but was also worried about Soubi and approached him, complimenting his art and imposing himself on Soubi for several weeks. By taking him out to play games at arcades, staying late to work on art and projects, Kio gradually learned a little more about Soubi before finally confronting the other man about the marks and scars, asking if he did all of it to himself. Even after he was relived to hear that Soubi wasn’t doing it to himself, Kio remained close to Soubi and became his closest if not only friend, though he came to hate Seimei for what he was doing to Soubi and hated the fact that the other took orders as if he were a slave. During the time that Seimei had ‘died’, Kio took care of Soubi while the other seemed to lose all will to live and didn’t do much of anything, taking on the role and title of Soubi’s surrogate wife. He knew that there was something that Soubi wasn’t telling him, some sort of secret that the other was keeping, but Kio could never quite put a finger on it.
At the time when Ritsuka began to come into the picture, Kio was worried that the same thing was going to happen that did with Seimei and automatically thought that the child was going to be just like his brother. Kio continued to try and keep Soubi on track with his work and classes, though he was thankful that Soubi was acting as if there was a reason to live again. Throughout the time that Soubi is acting as the Loveless fighter Kio pops up to tend to him, though he also winds up cooking and drinking with the zero boys after they are defeated by Soubi as well.
When finally Ritsuka decides to head to the academy and orders Soubi to take him, Kio refuses to be left behind and rides with Soubi; meeting Ritsuka in person for the first time. While on the trip Kio winds up changing his mind about Ritsuka and comes to like the child as well as starts to worry about him a little. His faith is renewed by Ritsuka and Kio vows to never give up on Soubi again, just before he is separated from them and forced to wait for them outside after refusing to go to a resort. While sitting out in the cold, he is attacked by Neisei and kidnapped by Seimei. Held under the supervision of Bloodless, Kio gets a glimpse of the fighter/sacrifice world though he has no clue what all of it is about or what is really going on. He also meets a girl that looks just like him and claims to be his twin before he is finally freed by Soubi and Ritsuka.
Though with all the questions he has, and everything that he needs to know, Kio doesn’t ask anything from Soubi or Ritsuka but instead returns to the main house. Obviously the first time that he had been back in some time Kio visits with his daughter, Shikiko and asks about whether he had a sister, only for her to refuse to talk to him about it. Though he also takes the time to visit her mother, Shieko.
[Personality] Kio can at first seem like a fairly loud and cheerful person, having no problem with voicing his opinions and imposing himself on others until he gets them to open up. Rarely does he use formalities or the appropriate titles when addressing others, the exception being when he is forced to such as in the presence of the head of the Kaidou family. When it comes to school and work, Kio is very driven and focused; meeting deadlines and keeping others on track as can be seen by his lecturing Soubi.
However, the childish adult does have a deeper part that is often overlooked at first. He has labeled himself a pacifist and hates violence, as well as those who use and resort to violence. In addition he has a tendency to worry about others even if he does not know them or has not known them very long, and will often endear himself to those who he think might need help. He also has a tendency to keep things that are really bothering him, or that he needs to get straightened out to himself, rather than loudly complaining as he does with small things that he doesn’t like or objects to. In short Kio is a carefree person, who has a large compassion for others, a love for art and tries to remain cheerful as long as possible. He’s also somewhat of a food junkie and always has a lollipop, jerky or something else to snack on.
[Abilities] Painting
[Other important stuff] Kio has approximately 14 piercings, around seven in each ear as well as two tattoos. The first tattoo is a tribal floral patter across his back while the second is a small black star on the ring finger of his right hand.

[First Person]
- If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not? Of course I would go home. There are still a lot of things that I have to figure out. Not to mention I’m still worried about Sou-chan and Rit-chan after everything that happened, I can’t help but feel like it had something to do with that place Sou-chan took us.
- What were you doing before now? What was I doing? I just said that I was trying to work some things out. I’m not going to say what though. [[Whether or not I really have a twin, or just what exactly happened that night.]]
- You're asked to take someone out for a date. Do you agree? If so, describe what you would do. If not, tell why. Of course I would agree, it’s always fun to meet new people and get to know them. Though it would really depend what they were like as to what type of date it would be, or what we were going to do. It could be an afternoon at the arcade, or maybe going to a café or something and getting something to drink and just talking, then again dinner sounds like a really good idea too. Food always tastes better with company!
- Murder. What is your opinion? Kio’s a pacifist. I despise violence and anyone who uses violence; especially those who use it kill someone else! Everyone has the right to live, even if they are bastards.
- What is more important to you: having friends or living on your own? Why? Having friends of course. It’s good to have some time to yourself to do things and focus when you have to, but friends are what makes life exciting. Not to mention it would be boring to always be on your own, it’s good to have someone else there to talk to, play games with, and everything else. Without friends you’ll be lonely.
- You have two options: either save your friend who is hanging from a cliff, or chase after the bad guy who put them in a position. If you choose the former, the bad guy will get away and it will be hard to catch him. If you choose the latter, the cliff will crumble and the friend will fall to the spiky rocks below. What do you do and why? Why would someone even ask this? Of course I would save the friend. Even if it would be hard to catch the person, he would still eventually get caught. But if you let your friend fall there’s no way to get them back, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll catch the guy even if you chase after him. Also, if you save your friend then you can go after the other guy together.
[Third Person]
Kio wrapped his coat tighter around himself, pulling on the scarf a little as he looked down at the umbrella. Of course it would decide to turn inside out and break when he was nowhere near where he was going. Looking up and holding a hand over his glasses it was still sprinkling but the rain was starting to come down harder now and the wind was really cold. He had just seen an old shack that he passed by, but there’s no way that would be warm; not to mention it probably leaked by the way it looked. Not to mention he really needed somewhere to lay down for a bit.
He had no idea where he was, the place where he had been staying was on the other side of the city and by the time he got there he would have been soaked. Luckily it was still light enough that he was able see where he was going as he started to sprint a little, mumbling under his breath about being out in whether like this and just wanting to get some groceries. There was another gust of wind that caused him to stop for a moment and look back, it was almost like there was something he should be thinking about. In a way it reminded him of the night at the seven voices academy, he still didn’t know what had happened there. Luckily though the moment of pause made him spot a house, taking refuge under edge just outside the door he checked the door and was surprised to find that it opened.
Cautiously he peeked inside, not exactly the ideal place to crash but it was better that getting sick. Standing in the doorway he pulled his coat close again looking back outside towards the hotel. He would make a break for it as soon as it let up for a moment, but with the down pour he figured this place was better than the shed. Sighing Kio inspected the house, wondering who lived there, or rather why they had left it like it was. The painter wondered if something had happened, there was some kind of accident or something. Looking at the window he paled a little, feeling sick to his stomach for a moment as he slowly backed towards the door once again and covering his mouth. He could dry off once he got to the hotel, he could hang his coat up to dry there and not wind up dead; or kid napped again. Making a dash through the rain though he kept wondering what happened there, whether that was actually blood, whose blood was it if there was no one there, were they alright. At the same time though he also had a million other things running through his mind, so much had been happening lately and Kio wasn’t really sure to make of any of it.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I’ve played here once before some time back with a different character, and while Kio is not exactly the most popular character, he is one of my favorites and one that I feel with his personality and quirks would fit in well with the game.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] The one involving limiting journal confusion simply because it is a little tedious to have to figure out whether a particular entry is for that community or another when reading someone’s journal.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] Jax, the current Alice/Ritsuka
[Any questions?] How do you do that voodoo that you do so well?
