OKINAWA, JAPAN - Katherine E. "Katie" Fortier, 15, of Okinawa, Japan was Called Home on Thursday October 14, 2004 with her loving parents at her side. She was born in Oceanside, California on May 25, 1989 and lived in Okinawa since 2003. She was a sophomore at the Kubasaki High School in Okinawa where she received a varsity letter in Cross Country Track. She was an active member of the Overseas Girl Scout Troop 426 where she served as an organizer and Girl Scout leader at Camp Raz-ma-taz in Okinawa. She was also a counselor for the Cub and Boy Scouts resident summer camps for the Great Okinawa District Boy Scouts of America. She was a communicant of Saint Sebastian Chapel in Okinawa where she volunteered for child care for their Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Program. She also volunteered for the child care at the Seventh Communications Battalion in Okinawa. She loved animals and enjoyed going to the Lupa Zoo in Ludlow during her summer visits to Massachusetts. She will be sadly missed by her beloved pets including her dog "Lady" and her cat "Neko". She leaves her loving parents, Master Gunnery Sergeant John J. Fortier of the United States Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Linnette M. (Garrity) Fortier of Granby, MA. Her loving step-mother, Joni M. Fortier of Okinawa. Her loving brothers and sisters, George L. Fortier, II and his wife Teresa of Granby, Christina M. Marshall of Chicopee, Jacob A. Fortier, Jeanne L. Fortier and Mary J. Fortier all of Okinawa. Her paternal grandparents, George L. and Mary E. (Purcell) Fortier of Granby. Her maternal grandparents, David Garrity of Florida, Larry Davidson of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and Collette M. (Orcutt) Davidson of Granby. Her maternal great-grandmother, Marie (Witty) Orcutt of Granby. Her step-maternal grandfather, J. Michael Capuano of Cedaredge, CO. Her many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and her many school friends in Okinawa. She also leaves her two dear nieces, Faythe Marshall and Arianna Fortier. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning October 30, 2004 at 8:30 a.m. from the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels (Phaneuf-Blais) 506 Britton Street in the Fairview section of Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:45 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street in Fairview. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery on Lyman Street in South Hadley. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Fairview Chapel on Friday October 29, 2004 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A video tribute will be presented throughout the visitation. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
