The one thing I love most about SUPERNATURAL is that it sparks thought and discussion about two of the most important things in this life; faith and family. Earlier today while reading reviews of last night's episode and enjoying a lazy Saturday morning I had a small epiphany. Now this may already be glaringly obvious to many of you, but I'm a bit uneducated when it comes to religious dogma. It occurred to me that the Original Sin committed by Adam and Eve that got them expelled from The Garden of Eden was not a carnal act, but the simple act of disobedience. (Hence the Angel's greatest offense is ... wait for it ... disobedience.) When God set Adam and Eve down in the Garden of Eden he told then not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge because ignorance is bliss and without the knowledge of self awareness they can lead an idyllic life within the confines and protections of the Garden. When Eve eats the fruit from the tree and gains that knowledge, she becomes self aware and this is both a blessing and a curse. With great knowledge also comes great responsibility. Enter Free Will. Now that we know the difference between right and wrong we can make a choice. We can be obedient and do the right thing or we can ignore our newfound knowledge and choose to disobey, but both actions will have repercussions for which we will be responsible. How we handle that responsibility is what makes us each who we are.
Just a little food for thought on a lazy Saturday.
