I posted this on the Yahoo!Group page, but thougth I'd post it here as well:
Since this last episode I've been thinking and trying to put everything that has happened into perspective now that we know that Dean is Michael's vessel and that Sam is supposed to be Lucifer's. Today for some reason I started to wonder what it might mean if Sam leaving for Stanford was a way for God to protect him from his fate as Satan's vessel. Kind of hiding him in plain sight as a normal human.
It occurred to me that if we take this as true, then Dean coming to get him had to be the work of the Devil. Which makes sense, because the demon is the one who killed Jessica sending Sam back in to the arms of his family. Just to play devil's advocate (pardon the pun) the demon might also have left a red herring for John to follow causing him to leave Dean behind. This would account for why Dean had trouble contacting his Dad - we've seen that the demons have the ability to manipulate technology such as cell phones and email. John disappearing led to Dean going to get Sam and being there to take him home when Jessica is killed. Or maybe the demon killed Jessica because Dean showed up and it was a good way to push Sam in to leaving with him. Either way works.
I suddenly realized that this would mean that everything from the very beginning could have been a result of the battle between God and the Devil for Sam. This led me to the conclusion that God then made Dean Michael's vessel so that he would be able to protect Sam from Lucifer. Therefore Dean MUST allow himself to accept Michael and be his vessel if he wants to save Sam from his fate as Lucifer's vessel. Stopping Lucifer from finding his true vessel might be what allows the human race to avert destruction, because perhaps God wasn't gone, but merely distracted by the battle he has been waging with Satan.
