you can't handle it
Let me preface this by saying that I, like many bowerbirds, are attracted to anything shiny. (And anything blue, to continue the analogy, and anything directly related to pop culture as a machine.)
Thus: it was inevitable, when, one day off from work, I stumbled into omonatheydidnt through a maze of links and discovered the amazingly amazing 2NE1 and their video for
They are a part of the KPop scene - a thick maze of girl and boy groups with huge member counts, created and grown via companies such as YG Entertainment, where, like any trade, you start as a trainee and work your way up. It's fascinating, and I'd found myself reading about it sporadically since sajee showed me the now-famous Wondergirls in all their Mod glory.
The difference, though, is that 2NE1 genuinely seem to be pushing an envelope while still being apart of the mess of product promotion and strict rules that govern the citizens of KPop World. Fashion-wise, they're exactly what I love - garish patterns, lady-like touches, kicks-with-skirts, fuck off bows, lashings of liquid eyeliner and so much colour, you'd think you were in a bubblegum ball machine.
They're garnering attention from American fashion designer Jeremy Scott (whose clothes they are often seen wearing, even playing at his ADIDAS launch in Seoul last night) and douchebag Perez Hilton - probably, in part, because of their amazing stylists Yang Seung Ho and Lee Hyun Jung, but also because they're freakin' awesome.
The filmclip for "Try To Follow Me" makes absolutely no sense in terms of plot, but sums up everything about these girls in one fell swoop - fun, colour, animation, fashion and fame. The styling is just phenomenal.
I can't even. I'm obsessed.

(They are, by the way, (from left to right in this picture) Minzy (bitch is 16), CL (fiercest fierce that ever fierced), Dara (omg my fave) and Bom (the only one who can kind of sing, really). GOT IT? GOOD.)
