Jan 27, 2009 10:02

Dale made the final adjustments to his tie before reaching for his coat. Tonight had taken a little more planning but it had been a while since he had taken Charlotte out for a date and he wanted it to be just right. Thankfully, with the help of Portalocity, everything should be just perfect ( Read more... )

"Almost!" Charlotte called back, still fussing a little with her hair, her make-up, her clothes, her...well, everything. She knew she should have given herself more time! Forget the fact that she'd been getting ready for almost an hour now. "Did you remember to feed Elizabeth Taylor?"

"Yes I did!" Dale said reaching over to lavish affection on the pooch. "And I gave her a quick walk around the block and a belly rub for being such a good girl. Aren't you a good girl? Yes you are!"

"Do you think she'll be okay," Charlotte added with a bit of distress in her voice, "all by herself while we're gone?"

Because, really, the dog had probably very rarely been out of the attentions of either of them for more than an hour at a time.

"It'll be just for a few hours," Dale assured her. "And I even asked Ralph to swing by on his patrol to look in on her."

Of course Ralph made a bitch-face when Dale asked him. Good thing he was wearing a helmet.

"You know," Charlotte mused in a shout across the apartment, although, really, holding up the conversation was holding up her progress, "I should do something nice for him here soon; he's been such a help lately."

Of course, if she knew bitch-faces were involved, she might change her tune.

She looked in the mirror for a moment, and then a few more moments of checking various important angles; she deemed it, as a whole, to be relatively unsatisfactory, but she knew they were working on a time limit here and didn't want to be late, so she figured it would just have to do.

"Okaaaaaaay!" she called, with one last touch of lipstick before bouncing out. "I'm ready!"

"Excellent," Dale said grabbing their coats and turning to see Charlotte..

And breaking into a grin. As she might find herself unsatisfactory but Dale found her to be perfect. "You look wonderful," he said quietly and holding up her coat to help her put it on.

"You look very handsome yourself," Charlotte noted, easing into her coat with a grateful smile for his compliment. Then again, he didn't even have to spend fifty gazillion hours to look so nice.

"Thank you," Dale said leaning in to give her a quick peck on the cheek and then offered his arm for her to take. "Now we need to catch our portal at the end of the block. Would you like to know where we are going or do you want to keep it a surprise?"

Charlotte effortlessly entwined her arm in Dale's, her other crossing over herself to settle her hand at his elbow. "You mean you'd actually tell me?" she asked playfully, although she would actually be a bit surprised that he hadn't intended on keeping the whole thing a surprise.

"Well it's not like you're going to find out in five minutes," Dale teased as he opened the door and led her out. "But I'll start off by saying that it's probably a place you are familiar with."

"Off-island?" Charlotte asked, instantly brightening with excitement because there was only one place that could possibly mean.

"Yes," he said with a grin. "I thought you might like to take a visit to your old stomping ground."

Charlotte managed to hold back a little squeal of approval to this plan; unfortunately, the effort took its toll elsewhere, in her grip on Dale's arm.

"What have you got planned for us to do there?" she asked, almost bouncing.

Dale grinned. He had hoped that she would approve.

"Well there's a new little restaurant near Rockefeller Center that's been getting good reviews," Dale replied as the arrived at the portal opening. "It sounds like a nice little place that's destined to disappear in two weeks and never hear from again and then I thought we'd take in a show on Broadway. Shall we?"

Okay, now there was bouncing.

And a big kiss on Dale's cheek.

"I think," she said, bracing herself because, excited or not, portals were still weird, "we shall."

Dale laughed as he stepped through the portal leading Charlotte to Times Square.

"I thought you'd like a quick trip home."
