Anime Fall 2009: Part 2

Oct 18, 2009 00:03

I'm running out of momentum for watching new shows this season.  If I haven't watched it yet, odds are I won't watch it in the future (unless it's voted up during mystery anime night).  That said, there's a few new shows I've managed to sit through.

Kobato.
is the latest CLAMP offering.  Kobato. is properly spelled with a period at the end.  It stars a clumsy and naive and stupid girl who must collect wounded hearts in order to grant her wish.  She is assisted by an ill-tempered (though he has every right to be, given how stupid she is) plush dog who breathes flame.  She also encounters an adult aged Syaoran clone with long hair.  This show wouldn't be so bad if the title character wasn't so dumb.  It would be improved if she had to wound their hearts herself.  Alas, in the end it's a lighthearted feel-good show with an annoying lead.  I can't believe they voted this up twice ....

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza
The sequel to the original Haruka's Secret starts off with extra fanservice.  And even more cliches.  And a new maid.  For some reason they're still not officially a couple, even though it's incredibly obvious and they're all over each other in a manner which should be scandalous.  If you've seen the first season, you know what to expect.  If you haven't, then you shouldn't watch this one yet.

Sora no Otoshimono
Yet another straightforward fanservice harem comedy.  Like the Kampfer, this one doesn't even pretend to be serious and so manages to be watchable.  The idea is this stereotypical loser harem lead gets a "Pet class Angelroid" who can grant him wishes, but who can't cancel wishes once made.  He misuses his new power in a blatant wish-fulfillment manner.  Oh, and apparently the wishes can respond to subconscious desires ...  It's entertaining in a mindless way.  I'll continue it until I can't anymore.

Kimi ni Todoke
Shoujo romance of the season.  And a fairly good looking one too.  Sawako, nicknames Sadako, has an appearance much like the girl from "The Ring" and a creepy demeanor too, causing her to be feared by her entire class.  Well, almost the entire class; 'cause there's this laid-back and relaxed guy who treats her like he treats everyone else, which she values greatly.  I'd like to repeat now that this show is a shoujo romance.  The production is pretty good, the acting is decent, the character designs are very simple, but not really bad.  I've been reading the manga, so I'll follow this one as well.

11eyes
Guy with eye-patch and his childhood friend occasionally find themselves brought to a red world filled with monsters.  Firstly, I'd like to say that his reason for the eye-patch doesn't make sense.  I think seeing someone with a discolored eye would be less disturbing than seeing someone with a giant multi-colored eyepatch.  This show also has a lot of random pantyshots.  Besides these issues, it's a solid production.  Not too original, but competently done at least.  It seems there's a bunch of girls who have yet to be introduced and some super powers to be released.  I'll probably continue with this series unless it gets bad.

Kiddy Girl-And
I wish they hadn't changed Ascoeur's character design so much during production.  Also, given the Pilot production, I was expected her to has a character similar to Lumiere, but instead she's been given the genki airhead treatment.  *Sigh*  On the other hand, Q-feuille is alright, and the new characters are interesting and the animation is decent.  I liked Kiddy Grade enough to give this one a chance.  This was my second most anticipated show of the season, so I hope it gets good.
