I'm almost entirely moved into my new place, and there's a new season to welcome my new internet connection. Since I finished all the series I was watching last season (except, I guess, Initial D the 5th), it's a brand new start there too.
Arata Kangatari is a both dumb and formulaic adventure fantasy with elaborate yet ugly character designs. I can't wait for Arata to gather the Suzaku Seven and save fantasy world. Interestingly enough, he is his own damsel in distress.
Devil Survivor 2 The Animation is based on a sequel rather than being a sequel itself. Hero scores points by nabbing the flags of both his guy and girl friends. While the actions of the MIB are less than rational, it's been pretty interesting so far. I will be disappointed if the boss guy's objective is to merge humanity's souls and revive his dead wife. However, I currently give it even odds.
Hataraku Maou-sama! has been rather amusing. While the heroine has been a bit stereotypical, the characters have good chemistry and the plot has been moving faster than expected. The major danger will be deus-ex-machina or loss of consistency. A funny show, this is one of the series I look forward to the most.
Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai. is a direct sequel to the first series from Autumn 2010. It follows the books closely, but looks to be even more rushed than before. Now with 200% more incest!
Red Data Girl is somehow atmospheric while being very fast paced. I worry they're not going to explain anything in the show, but since the main story seems to be a romance, that might not be necessary. I hope they are going to use the armory Chekov is so nicely setting up for them. This show proves I can still enjoy non-HD anime.
Shinkgeki no Kyojin is extremely dumb. There is maybe one character with a brain larger than a pea. Foreshadowing is done with the subtlety of a hammer to the face. The technology level is extremely inconsistent. I'll bet the giants are either robots or bioweapons. The only reason I'm still giving it a chance is the amusing terminology rant by Commie.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru is like Autumn 2011's Haganai only less moe. I count this a good thing. While the setup is somewhat standard, the development so far has been unexpected. I'm enjoying its genre savviness.
Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko is a nice, lighthearted, romantic comedy. While the OP and ED push the moe card, the show itself is more restrained. The characters are in real need of development, but their interactions are rather entertaining.
Kakumeiki Valverave is not Gundam Seed. Despite all evidence to the contrary, it is not Gundam Seed. Really. Proposed alternative titles have been Guilty Seed or Gundam Geass, but it really is different from those shows. This one has body-snatching space vampires.
Suisei no Gargantua is written by Urobuchi Gen so you know it'll be bloody and full of death and destruction. Hopefully it'll start with the female lead who is really too energetic and careless. Even if that doesn't happen, I'm sure she'll become broken eventually.
Zettai Bouei Leviathan is probably a kids' show. There's supposedly some huge danger and some girls need to pool their magic to defeat it. So far it's been about people walking around in the woods. And CG bugs. It is amusing that the people are all lizard (dragon?) people.
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S also picks up where the first season left. Interestingly, the events from the second half of the first season were anime original, while this season is from the second arc of the manga, so there've already been some changes to account for new characters and events. On the other hand, it's moving much more quickly that the first season, and the lack of filler is extremely welcome.
Date a Live is garbage so pure and refined, that it makes everything else on this list look like masterpieces. It's like if someone took a list of retarded moe and fanservice elements then mixed it with a generic contrived fantasy plot, then gave the animation and voice work over to random people off the street. If I've made it sound so bad it's good, then I have failed my intent.
Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince sounds like it should be some shoujo series with lots of princes. It's not. Unfortunately, it's still not good. It's a sentai show full of one dimensional characters with art that looks like Gundam Seed, but is fuzzier and less consistent. It's a member of the "who needs tactics?" brand of space combat show.
