wow- thank you very much for the compliment. last i checked i was at 11 pounds but i haven't weighed myself for a few weeks and i hadn't started weighing myself right away either so it might be more. plus i know i've been gaining muscle mass at the same time.

but yeah- couldnt agree more about the self esteem thing. feel so good lately, i may as well be skipping around instead of walking. there's mounting evidence that the way you take care of your body is reflected in your mind to a very large extent- which should be kind of 'duh' info. ancient african religions (we'd call them voodoo but the term has such negative connotations. think they've changed it to 'vudou' nowadays or something. they're actually wonderful spiritual beliefs and practices and have absolutely nothing to do with 'witchcraft') have been saying this kind of thing for thousands and thousands of years but it's just now starting to get some attention now that conventional western medicine is 'discovering' the idea. i've been seeing this in medical journals galore and most recently in that 'milwaukee monthly- the voice' newspaper thing had a really great article but i cant seem to find the paper online to provide a link. the 'nutrition news' comunity on lj did just have a link to another food pyramid that puts more emphisis on the healing power of food which i found really interesting- here's the link to that: http://www.livejournal.com/community/nutritionnews/134166.html#cutid1 any, yeah. sure it's a combination of physiological effects of food, excessive endorphine in the brain, and cheerfulness brought about by feeling more attractive. but once again, thank you very very much- this kind of feedback is quite encouraging. :-)

it is and always has been called vodun. Slaves brought it to the US, where it was bastardized into the "voodoo" of New Orleans tourist fame. Interesting side note- the idea of zombies comes from vodun, where black magic practicioners can make a person appear dead, then controll their body and actions.
