Part I

The doors slammed behind them and Emily braced her hands on her knees, puffing from running back into the building.

Naomi laughed at the girl, “Jesus, you’re unfit” She puffed a little herself but attempted to hide it.

Emily grinned at the blonde, chuckling back at her. “Shut up!”
She walked over towards Naomi, who was leaning up against the wall, her head resting back on a set of lockers, her eyes shut and a content smile on her face. She opened her eyes to see Emily standing in front of her, brown searching blue and her fingers playing loosely with a stray string on Naomi’s bag.

Naomi’s voice grew softer then, “you have snow in your hair.” She commented, brushing it out before placing a stray strand of hair behind Emily’s ear. Emily smiled, and licked her lips and leant forward slightly, her breath mingling with Naomi’s. Naomi’s breath hitched as she leant forward to bridge the gap between them.

“But you’re completely disregarding the point, Ms Fitch.”

Emily jumped back from Naomi and turned to stand awkwardly next to the other girl. Their hearts trembling beneath their chests as they realised how close they were to being caught by the one person they both dreaded.

“But, Miss. This is completely unfair. I deserved at least a low A for this essay.”

“Frankly, Katie I’d be happy with that grade if I were you. Your work hasn’t been exactly brilliant of late.”

Katie huffed as the teacher entered the staffroom and kicked the wall beside her lightly before spotting her sister watching her.

“Ems? What are you doing here?” She looked cautiously at Naomi, glaring at her. “You have no classes for the rest of the day.” She thought for a moment, “and, you know what? Fuck it. Neither do I.” She declared, flicking through her text messages. Before looking up at her twin, gesturing for her to follow as she walked out the door.
“Come on!” She tilted her head in the direction of the street.

Emily looked at Naomi and down at their intertwined hands, her fingers gently playing with the blonde’s. The long sleeves of Naomi’s jacket, which had stayed firmly over Emily’s shoulders, covered all this, hiding what the small smile playing on Emily’s lips meant as Naomi’s fingers gently played with the skin of her palm.

Emily sent a sympathetic look to Naomi and let her hand drift apart from the girl’s.

What the fuck was Naomi doing? What was she thinking? She shouldn’t have even felt anything for this girl. She shouldn’t want to lean forward and kiss her longingly and she definitely shouldn’t be thinking about how incredible she looks as she walks away.

Naomi’s thought process was interrupted as she heard Emily explain she had to make sure Naomi got home and didn’t freeze to death without her jacket. She heard Katie argue but the end of he argument was cut off by the door closing again and Emily appearing in front of her. She smiled. Emily smiled back, and bit her lip in the most adorable way, making butterflies jitter in Naomi’s stomach (fucking butterflies?! How old was she? Twelve? Snap out of it Naomi!).

“Well? Come on.” Emily smirked at her, her hand held out for her to take, “I’m your chaperone this evening. Have to make sure you get home and don’t get frostbite.”

God. She was so adorable Naomi almost swooned. Almost.

Emily was the one this time to wrap her arm possessively around Naomi’s waist pulling her close to keep out the cold as they walked slowly back to Naomi’s home. Naomi looked over at the smaller girl and contemplated kissing her cheek, before remembering where they were, who she was and why she was enjoying Emily’s fingers clutching at her hip as they walked.

They reached Naomi’s, and walked up onto the veranda.
“Thank you.” Emily smiled. Naomi then fiddled with her keys before dropping them. Naomi bent over to pick them up only to knock heads with the dark redhead and reel back in pain before laughing at the stupidity of their actions.
“God, I’m sorry!” Emily cried.
“Christ, Fuck” She rubbed her head, “No, no its fine.” Naomi chortled, looking up at Emily and finding a grin on her face before they both burst into a fit of giggles.

They sat on the veranda, Aware of the bitter cold, yet neither was bothered by it. Ever so often one would start giggling at the thought of the previous blunder, and the other would laugh with her.

Emily sighed, “I should get going.” She saw the flicker of sadness cross Naomi’s face before it was replaced with a smile. Naomi looked to her feet, covered in snow and was wet.

Emily went to stand, her arm pushing her upwards when Naomi grasped her arm.
“Wait.” Naomi stood up leaning in, briefly and softly kissing her.

Emily let out a breath, the air fogging as she did. Her eyelids still closed. She opened them to see Naomi staring back at her, awkwardly, her lip cutely between her teeth.

Emily walked forward then, one hand stationary on Naomi’s waist and the other brushing under the blonde’s eye as she leant in an kissed her fervently, not wasting a moment as her tongue was easily let into the other girl’s mouth making Naomi gasp. Emily pulled her close as they kissed, their hips pressed together tightly and Naomi’s hands surrounding Emily’s back.

Naomi was breathless when they finally broke apart; She was suddenly no longer cold at all, but rather the opposite.

“Wow.” The blonde began.

“Yeah.”

“But- WOW.”

“Yeah…” Emily smiled and turned on her heel walking away.

Naomi turned and walked into her house. Not knowing how to feel.
