Whoa.

Today is my first day back at work, and I'd say it's been a memorable day.

Convocation is usually a dismal experience that involves lots of blabbering, rah-rahing, and clapping incessantly. Oh, and eating a lackluster meal with a bunch of people, then sitting on a blocked-in bus for an hour to get back to work. Needless to mention, I wasn't too thrilled to go, so my team decided to make alternative transportation arrangements this year, including skipping out of the lunch. So, knowing parking would be a hardship, I emptied the heavy stuff from my bag (random items, chargers, camera), packed a notebook and class lists in it to occupy myself during the presentation, and we went on our merry way.

So we're in the auditorium, listening to our new head honcho, when he casually mentioned that the person who looks like Goldie Hawn is actually Goldie Hawn, my colleagues and I perked up. Wait, what did he say? Sure enough, there she was, standing up and waving from the front row.

Of all people, Goldie Hawn was the keynote speaker at our convocation. She talked about whole-child education, mindfulness, and mentioned a bit about her work in the subject via the Hawn Foundation. A lot of what she talked about made a lot of sense.

Meanwhile, my camera was sitting on my desk, right where it belonged, of course. That one will have to do.

life, awesome, work
