Angel (Fred & Wesley) - You are my sunshine (the staircase scene - s05e15)
This scene is from the episode "A hole in the world" (s05e15).
I've chosen this scene because it starts like an ordinary scene, Fred and Lorne chatting about cavemen and astronauts, Wesley telling Fred he'll take her out for dinner the day after, and suddenly without warning, Fred starts bleeding and collapses for no apparent reason.. I love the fall and the sudden panic. When you see it for the first time, you don't realize it's that bad (she's in the opening credits, she cannot die, they'll find something :p) but by the end of the episode she's gone (in a beautiful scene by the way) and you can't help crying.. When you rewatch it, you already know what the fall means and it's even more heartbreaking.

Fred: But that doesn't make any sense.
Lorne: I just call it like I see it.
Fred: But the cavemen have fire. That's what they live with in their caves. The astronauts should at least have some sort of weapon.
(notices Wesley walking up the stairs toward them)
Fred: Hey there
Wesley: I was just on my way to thinking of an excuse to come and see you.
Fred: (smiles) And how is that working out?
Wesley: Really great. Where are you coming from?
Fred: Oh, medical. I breathed some old mummy dust. Had to make sure I didn't discover any new germs.
Wesley: (concerned) You all right?
Fred: They shooed me right off. Mummy free.
Wesley: Good. I was hoping to take you out tomorrow night, and I don't feature you wrapped in bandages.
Fred: Take me out where? (grins widely)
Wesley: Can it be a secret?
(I love Wesley's face changing from concern to relief as Fred's talking, he's adorable)
Lorne Oh, sheesh. (steps between them to walk down the stairs) Get a balcony, you two, huh?
Fred: (calls after Lorne) You'll still find me for lunch, though, right?
Lorne (pauses, turns to face her) I'll just look where the sun shines. (sings)You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... (starts down the stairs)
Fred: (turns to Wes, smiling, singing) You make me happy-
(Lorne turns back in horror)
(I love this shot on Lorne turning back, looking horrified, and then everything going so fast..)
Wesley: Get medical. (yelling) Someone get medical NOW!
I love the way they used the stairs, Fred's fall though heartbreaking is quite beautiful (unfortunately, it happens so fast I don't think I captured it that well :/) and that last shot with the characters behind the handrail makes things look even more chaotic and dramatic.. I wish Dollhouse to make such a good use of its set.
Notes:
1 : I know the fade to black image is there to mark the end of the Act and announce the commercials, but I think it increases Wesley's despair so I kept it :p)
2 : The screencaps I did were way too dark so I had to modify the colors.
