Introduction to Running Man
What is it? A Korean Variety Show, been described as the first of its genre "urban action variety". It consists of the main 8, now 7 casts and usually 1-3 guests completing missions in teams against each other to avoid punishment.
Who is in it? Well as explained before there are 7 main cast...
The Main MC Yoo JaeSuk- Anyone familiar to Korean variety show should be familiar to Yoo JaeSuk, He is one of the top 2 MC's in Korea, known to be hardworking, kind and modest. He is described to be a celebrity with no anti-fans (haters basically and in any entertainment industry that is pretty rare).
Ji SukJin- A MC with many big name shows under his belt, you may have seen him in shows such as Hi-5 and Golden Bell.
Kim JongKook- A singer, with an impressive 16 albums (Solo and part of a duo, Turbo)who has participated in many different variety shows..Has been described by some as a muscle man with the voice of a mosquito.
Ha DongHoon aka HaHa- He once was a rapper in a band, however has turned to be a full time entertainer, having participated in many variety shows as well.
Song JiHyo- A variety newbie, this actress has been on both the big and small screen with top names, you probably remember her being the third wheel in Goong.
Kang Gary- Another variety newbie.. A Rapper in the hip-hop duo Lessang who has 4 albums under his belt.
Lee KwangSoo- A variety newbie as well.. An actor who has appeared in drama's such as High Kick and Dong Yi. The Maknae of the group in age and debut.
Casts that have left.
Song JoongKi- A variety newbie.. An actor who captured the heart of many fan girls with the drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal.
The casts have developed many different character's in the show, bringing out various chemistry between each other. One reason why I particularly love this show is the chemistry between all the casts, you see the real closeness in friendship between already existing friends such as Sukjin/JaeSuk, Jaesuk/JongKook and JongKook/HaHa but you also see how new friendships slowly develop and that they become a closer family after every episode.
Where do they film?
They film in a different location each time so you can watch them complete missions and learn about different korean places.
What are the missions?
Well they can be just about anything.. sometimes related to the location, sometimes related to the guests.
Why should you watch it?
Firstly, as mentioned before, the chemistry between all the casts are brilliant and you watch them develop every episode.
Secondly, you are introduced and will fall in love with people you may not know about or you may have hated, such as Song JiHyo, how many people have watched Goong and automatically hated Song JiHyo's character and indirectly JiHyo as well, this show will change you attitude to her. Or Gary, who may be talented in rapping but does not have the face to attract fans, but through this show you will see a side of him that music shows couldn't show.
Thirdly, all kpop idol fans need not dissapoint at the lack of idols, this show has had many of your favourite idols guesting such as the likes of SNSD, SuJu, TVXQ, Kara, 2PM and more.. Even After School's Lizzy has appeared in Running Man for 10 episodes (she was originally thought to be added as a main cast however show producer stated she was just a long term guest)
