Can the songs only be in mp3 format?

Definitely no. As long as you have a link for your music to be heard, it doesn't matter the format.

I think m4as can only be played on the account of the original user, if that makes sense. That's how it's always been with me (it's the default format of the iTunes store and from uploaded/burned CD's). But you can find m4a-to-mp3 converters online pretty easily which is handy.

I could be wrong about that, though! It's just how it's always been for me.

Yea, iTunes' default is m4a but there are a lot of unprotected m4a files that people put up for download all the time :)

If I pick an m4a, I'll make sure it's unprotected!
