color & contrast of reversal film, vol. 2: three kings

REVERSAL FILM is a certain kind of film stock - used rarely - that really saturates colors (when used with color), deepens the blacks, and blows out the whites. it also has a grainy quality to it and can make for some pretty crazy-looking images... and i love it. and i want everyone to love it too, so i'm going to picspam for you a few awesome ( Read more... )

Thanks for that small blurb, I never knew that there was a term for this style. Do you know any other films that use this style?

volume three of my little project will be the firefly episode "out of gas", and volume four will be the movie domino. i know buffalo '66 was also shot on reversal, and i believe so were wolverine's flashbacks/nightmares in the x-men movies.

well, i was a film major in college, and one of my friends made a student film that she shot on color reversal film, so that's when i first learned what it really was. i can recognize it pretty well when i see it, but it isn't used very often.
