Well. Shit, here we are a-fucking-gain. CDC said that people can be unmasked outdoors, and with other people - who are vaccinated. That was the guidance, but also you could be unmasked indoors as well...
That last one pissed me off. Because even the vaccinated can get the virus, just not as bad. But this also meant the vaccinated could also spread it. Is the vaccine worth it? IT TOTALLY FUCKING IS WORTH GETTING. If you get the vaccine you will have greater chances of surviving through this pandemic. So why am I pissed off? We tried to get one over on the virus. And it is backfiring.
When the restrictions started getting rolled back, like here in June we started getting back to more "normal". But the Delta variant was already present in the US. My family and I met the rolled back restrictions with skepticism. I still mask up as I have since March of 2020. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, because my health and the health of those close to me is important.
You can't get one over on a virus. The virus does not care. The virus is not smart. The virus evolves to survive and continue to infect. For fuck's sake, we have to be triple fucking sure the shit is safe enough for everyone before we stop masking. Do I like wearing a mask? Not really. But I want to be part of the solution, so I put my very slight discomfort at the bottom of my priorities when out and about.
We can't afford to make these mistakes. The unvaccinated people are not helping either, obviously. We all know the vaccine is safe, we know masks help, we know this virus is relentless. The nightmare will continue, it may not be as horrible as one year ago. But we do know that it will continue to change so long as there are people not doing their part to halt transmission of this virus.
