Thoughts on education

Middle school is universally agreed to suck and not matter at all. I remember the only thing worth happening in middle school was checking out books that weren't Accelerated Reader curriculum because I wanted to read good shit. I discovered Frozen Rodeo thanks to my first stirrings of rebellion.

It was basically a really good blend of Clerks, Adventureland, and any good book about the high school experience. I get that we're mixing apples and oranges here, but it's pretty accurate according to my memory. Aside from that, yeah, middle school was boring, and just an inbetween to get the awkwardness of puberty out of the way and get you ready for conformity in the high school environment.

And high school was originally meant to prepare teenagers for the real world. Which it halfway does. I remember learning to write cheques, never used that shit. Plastic is accepted at yardsales these days (ten years later). But even then in 2009 plastic was accepted at any place that mattered. The grocery, gas station, restaurants, cinema, hotels, et cetera ad nauseum.

High school did let me find myself, though. But mostly because of the few good teachers, and cool people who encouraged me to do my thing and keep doing it well. I've kept doing my thing and I'm more or less living life to a nice extent. While I can improve, I'm getting on a better path every year. Some things take time. Whereas middle school was a time waste and most of high school too.
