I've hit a sensitive spot in the storyline: basically, a canon scene, even with some canon dialogue, but the circumstances are fundamentally different. I've struggled with it a lot, am still not entirely happy with the outcome, but then decided to just write on, cobble together a rough draft and hope that it will sort itself eventually. *fingers crossed*
This scene is from the 1st season Enterprise episode "Fusion", where they met those unconventional Vulcans and T'Pol lets Tolaris talk her into trying the mind meld. The canon dialogue is in italics, just so that you can compare. (In this AU T'Pol and Tolaris go way back because I just don't believe she'd let a complete stranger talk her into something like that.)
Excerpt: "I can see why you were drawn to this place. It is unlike anything on Ni'Var(*). I am not surprised" He paused; then he kept on digging as he always had done, never content with that which was freely given. "You said you were invigorated. What else?"

That's a good scene there. Definitely write on, and things will sort themselves out. AU gives you the control to bend (and break) canon, and you are very good at weaving it all together!
Not much in the vein of NEW new words today, but I did the last editing round (which did indeed involve writing new/rewriting some lines) and posted a chapter of a WIP that I hadn't updated since April
So I'll call this an accomplishment for today
What i REALLY need to do in November is write my Chengxian zine fic, though (or even just decide what I want to write for it, I have a rough concept for a one-shot short fic but nothing resembling an outline) - but I kinda doubt I'll get to it before I get some big RL stuff out of the way next week. Just can't focus on a new creative thing with this looming over me
Thank you! I'll have to travel for 2-3 days but everything down to the length of the trip or if I'll be going alone is still in the air and I won't be able to know details until basically the day of it since it all depends on health so I'm just /VIBRATES!!!
RL has the nasty habit of interfering with our time that could be used for so much more pleasant things. *hugs* I hope you'll manage to write that fic eventually.
Today I worked on my story for an hour and a half. Little actual writing, other than notes about some changes I need to make. I spent a good deal of the time researching restaurants and parking garages in New York City in 1964 in order to better ground the scene

Well done - and I know that feeling when you begin to research something and it sort of grows and grows. And I see no reason not to have an unusually warm day - climate change has a lot to answer for...

Oh man, I hate it when you have been doing so much research and then you suddenly realize that you overlooked some tiny detail that doesn't even matter much but now you know about it and can't unsee (even if it is very unlikely anybody else will even notice it.) That's so annoying!
A bit of tweaking of yesterday's words, and around 600 or so more added which brings me to The End! It needs beta-ing yet and possibly another tweak or two when I go back over today's words, but I am very happy.
The whole story is a bit over 63,000 words and I began it around 2 years ago :)
Thank you! I've enjoyed getting this whole story to work. And there is one of the long term characters that only appeared in the first chapter of this - and he has been having his own adventure, so that is the next story already building in my mind for the rest of this month.
