We’ve heard a rumour which may explain what happened to our dog Floquinho. This was heard by my brother’s father-in-law.
A man from a nearby town rented some land in São Domingos, on the other side of our mountain (a few kilometres down the road from our front gate). Recently, a pack of dogs attacked his cows at night, so he told people, and killed three calves. He planned to sort out these wild dogs by packing sausages with rat poison and leaving them around his property.
My brother and I doubt Floquinho would have gone there and eaten the sausages - he never strayed far from home. It’s more likely that this man would have heard there was a nearby property with many dogs and dropped the sausages off here. (But why only one of our dogs got killed?)
It’s just a theory - town gossip - but my sister-in-law, in typical fashion, wants to go there, kill the man and set fire to everything.
I’m pushing for us to better secure our fences and gate so our dogs can’t leave the property anymore. Not only for their safety but also our own, in case anyone shows up one day claiming they got attacked by our dogs (as it once happened to a local biker) and we need to pay compensation.
