ofux yew guise, today's an air quality between
384 and
476, depending where you look. (The Chiense sites say
500 and
390 respectively.)
Just to give you an idea,
Wikipedia says this
201-300 ---- Heavily Polluted ---- Healthy people will be noticeably affected. People with breathing or heart problems will experience reduced endurance in activities. These individuals and elders should remain indoors and restrict activities.
300+ ---- Severely Polluted ---- Healthy people will experience reduced endurance in activities. There may be strong irritations and symptoms and may trigger other illnesses. Elders and the sick should remain indoors and avoid exercise. Healthy individuals should avoid out door activities.
Now, I haven't been to the gym these past few weeks, but I'm pretty sure I qualify as a healthy person. And if my throat is hurting, I'm coughing like lung-coughs, my eyes are irritated, and I have to keep blowing my nose despite not having a cold, then I think there's something wrong.
A student on my Chinese Facebook gave a good explanation for this: It's the result of hte city turning on its heating. (In China, the city governments decide what date to allow buildings to turn on their heating systems - there's no such things as central heating or thermostats in 95% of buildings, just radiators or A/C/Heaters that only work in one mode at a time (cooling or heating, no in-between).) And since HRB is a coal town, there's been coal in the air.
Makes sense. Iget it. But shit damn, I hope this shit doesn't continue for the next two months, else I'm not going to have a throat.
I'd think of buying a breathing-mask, only I can't wear one constantly indoors, because what the fuck. And yet - I'm in a sealed room, but my eyes and throat itch.
And you can't even see the sunlight. The sun is orange, like in a sunset. I can look straight at it.
