So - waiting for Magicjack to download onto my computer, anddang son but it's taking its own sweet time. Course, I think that's mostly ebcause everything is taking longer, with my computer's current ... dehabilitation, if you might call it such. Frustrating, irritating, wanna punch things, still sick, blah blah blah.
I made this icon, just before my computer pooped out on me. I was doing a rewatch of FMA, and dang, that show is more powerful if you're older. I mean, s'good stuff when you're younger, but then you rewatch it eight years later ... yeah.
Though - I'm sorry, The World of Fandom, but Nina's death just didn't get to me? I mean, it didn't the first time, either. I know, intellectually, it's bad, but it just doesn't gut-punch me the way it's supposed to. The Door does. The part where Roy almost turns the gun on himself does. The end of Episodes 22 and 25 - just wow. But Nina? I'm sorry, but it doesn't get to me.
I remember bits and pieces, but it's fun rewatching it all. But good lord. FMA: TRAUMATIC PASTS FOR EVERYONE. I swear there is no being onscreen in this show without having something horrible happened/happening/will-happening to you. Which I know is sort of like real life, except that it's such a heavy concentration of trauma in such high doses that - I don't know. I like this show, I really do, and I love the art style, but it's not on my high-favorites, I think, for this reason. It's awesome, yes. But there's something lacking in it that isn't in my favorites. I don't know why this isn't, but Monster is -- there's about the same amount of Holy Shit Factor in both shows. I dunno. Gotta to think about that.
But I do gotta say, I am impressed by many things in FMA. It absolutely has all the hallmarks of a classic -not even like it's trying for it, just that it's that way. It's plotted tightly, the episodes are well-rounded, the animation is pretty uniformly excellent (except for a few moments in the first couple episodes with Cornello). And, yes, there are some quite pretty characters. Also, everyone is badass.
So I don't know what keeps me ranking it as high on my likes as, say Yu Yu Hakusho, or Avatar, or Durarara!!, or, hell, Korra. This I do not understand.
I do understand one thing, though. That I have precedent for not liking Orihara "hot badguy that every fangirl likes" Izaya -- and that precedent is Envy. God, Envy is such a bitch. Of the homunculi:
Lust: I like
Gluttony: irritates me
Greed: needs a smack across the face but he's that kind of guy so okay whatever
Wrath: ugh, so annoying
Sloth: is okay for a character, no + or - feeling
Pride: is okay for a character, no + or - feeling
Envy: FUCKING SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU LITTLE FUCKBUG
I got the same feels about Kimbly. But, hell, I'm like that to this particular character-type in every fandom. Legato Bluesummers? UGH SHUT UP. Tahno? UGH SHUT UP. Jet? YOU ARE A LITTLE IDIOT. Izaya: you are funny but also no, son, I do not fan. Karasu: STFU. Sasuke, Itachi, Orochimaru: BETCHES. Etc etc etc. I really know how to pick 'em. This is another why I am not in fandom anymore: I have more unpopular opinions than a scientologist's inbox. :D
butsoyeah. Planning to finish this when I get back to being able to do things on my computer. Also, Brotherhood after that, because I wanna see how they compare.
But right now it is 30 min to midnight n I have class in the AM, so I'mna hang it up here. I shall see you guys anonly!
