The Snoball. One of the most important dances of the year where everyone gets dressed up and gets a chance to meet people's dates/boyfriends/girlfriends who are from outside the school. The only time of the year, besides Prom, where we all get to meet Doug's girlfriend, Sam, or various others. Many people sress over the all important date. It's on January 27th but some people have already gotten dates or planned on asking in the near future. Originally, I didn't plan to be one of them until recently.
Algebra II pretty much started off normally and then I began talking to Sarah, who's a Sophomore clarinet player. Things were going on as they usually do, we talked about random stuff and then of course Jon comes up in the conversation mainly because Sarah brought up how she doesn't like Heidi. I love Heidi but that's besides the point.
"Yeah... I sorta like Jon so I'm afraid that Heidi'll get mad at me," I was being sincere and sorta telling Sarah that I liked Jon all at the same time, "So have anything planned for the Snoball?"
The signs for it had been posted for weeks and it was already being talked about around the school so I brought up the big dance just to keep our conversation going.
"Yeah, I was planning on asking someone right after this period since a lot of girls I know are going to ask him," she started to say while looking up at him. Then took she took her pencil and wrote the name of the boy she wanted to ask, Jon Martin.
My answer was just a simple "oh" then began to look around the room while Sarah looked sorta of dissapointed.
"Now I feel bad because you like him," she sounded sincere, "Maybe now I won't ask him. Do you want to go with him? I just kinda wanted to go with someone. Oh, now I don't know if I'll ask him."
I just nodded a lot during that and then she gave the same dissapointed look. I had asked her many times if she had liked Jon and she said no every single time but I wanted to go with him so I decided not to wait.
Honors Physiology rolled on in while Mrs. BG was going over our cancer project and Jordan was asking me what cancer I had, I just stared at the wall and began to think of a way to ask him or even if I was going to ask him. Obviously his mind was so on college at the moment that he wouldn't ask yet so it was probably good to make a move. Then there was the obvious fear of being rejected that hadn't been gotten over since Ryan Richter rejected me three times in the 7th grade. Seems silly but it still bothered me.
I finally made my decision and sat down next to Jen along with the laptop that was supposed to be used on research for my cancer topic, osteosarcoma. Instead, I spilled everything to her and she gave me a huge smile telling me to do it. Sitting there, I scribbled down Will you go to the Snoball with me? on a peice of notebook paper in fancy text with stars all around it. It seemed like a cute way to add a spark to asking him and also just in case I choked. The Band Room after school was the perfect place because he was always there after and I needed to get my mouthpeice.
After class, I wandered down the hallway until I ran into Little Kyla, my twin in the 8th grad except she's taller and has blue eyes with long brown hair, I told her what I was going to do and she jumped for joy while pushing me down the hallway. After not seeing him for a couple of minutes, I shrugged and wandered to my locker to grab my stuff then headed back downstairs where Little Kyla was with Mike.
"Did you ask him yet," she asked with a hopeful look on her face. I shook my head then she pushed me in the opposite direction, "I just saw him. He was heading for the Band Room. GO! GO!"
Mike seemed confused in all of this and just followed behind me and Bailey who walked with me to the Band Room. Soon he dissapeared somewhere. I walked into the Band Room and looked around to see Jon talking with Mr. Benz in his office. Now the sick feeling was coming while I pretended to be looking through my band locker for my stuff, only to grab my mouthpeice and turn around to see Jon.
"Hey Kyla," he said smiling happily at me. Stomach was getting worse, "You walking home?"
"Yup," I answered trying to act as normal as possible while returning the same smile he gave, "Just like I always do."
Like usual he began to laugh at the fact he drove home and I walked home then I decided to start a conversation, "How's the college stuff going?"
This part of the conversation was fuzzy, I just walked along side of him down the hallway while he went on about finishing his essays and other things then I found a way to began to ask. "So... I'm guessing with all this college searching you haven't though about the Snoball much, have you?"
"No. Why..." he asked while shooting a smile at me in a mocking tone. Now it was time for the hard part.
"Because," I began to search through my cross country jacket pockets for the sign, "I was wondering... Will you go to the Snoball with me?"
I held up the little sign in front of my face because it was obviously turning bright red. Before I even had the chance to blink or him to even have the chance to think, he kept grinning at him and answered, "Sure!"
"Really?"
"Yeah." After that I instantly tackle hugged him, it had been a while since the last time I hugged him. He began to laugh and made his usual sarcastic comment, "Wasn't that a little rash?"
I ran a hand through my hair and laughed nervously because he was weighed down with his trumpet and backpack when I tackled him. Then he asked me if it was a litle early to be asking people, I just shrugged and answered that he asked Stephanie two months before last year. He laughed and wandered up the stairs to his car.
After that excitement, I walked by the buses to see Allison and Jen tapping on the windows giving me a thumbs up and a thumbs down. I answered with the thumbs up and they instantly hugged each other on the bus while it drove away. Then I got many comments on how some of my friends are mad because they have to find dates now.
It's started, it's going to be a long wait but it's on it's way. ^^
