A Fire in the Cold

In the manner of this version of the blog, this entry contains stuff about all sorts of things, including health, coding and church decisions.

So it seems that not only am I "well" now, but I seem to be doing better than my colleagues and family.  Both my parents have some bug and at least two of my helpdesk colleagues are off sick.  Also, since "my" van has been borrowed, I decided to walk into work today, making it in 28 minutes not the expected 35 (20% off!).  I am going to walk home, although it won't be nearly as pleasant in the dark.  Unfortunately, although it was somewhat quieter at work today, with half the helpdesk off I was playing catch-up along with my remaining colleagues.

Some talk on the CF forums has left me with three things on my agenda for my expected meeting with the consultant on Wednesday (still not confirmed):
  • Examine my port and discuss possibilities/options
  • Push to come off Azithromycin
  • Talk about the communication about port problems between CF centres.
I figure if I post it here I am less likely to forget!

I am pleased to announce that I have fixed sealed decks for Rage... by using somebody else's code.  I gave up using ASP because although it was getting close to what I wanted, it was not going to be smooth enough to be used by your average computer user.  The downsides are that we (Rage judges) do not have a record of sealed deck cards, and that it won't be so easy to use with playtest cards (as we did with Rainmakers).  I have an idea about that though, but this will work for casual use.  I still hate debugging though - it took at least two hours, even though I stole the code.  I also contacted UpperDeck about adding Vs System although I don't hold out much hope other than "Your interest has been noticed."  I even got a couple of games in.

Another sign of my current vigour is that after going to bed at 3am, I made it to church at 10.15.  I mention this more because if I had not I would have missed the discussion about where our joint services would be held.  While there was a good concensus that small services would be perfect held at the more intimate Methodist Church of our joint Parish, it also seemed to be an overwhelming view that all main Sunday services should be held at St Albans.  If it was just us, this would not be a problem but how is this charitable to those Methodists who are asking for just one Sunday service a month held at the church they have worshipped in for so long?  It is a difficult road we have to walk, because we have to look to the future yet not disenfranchise (completely) the current congregation.  The methodist congregation here may be a lot smaller than the Anglican, but we have our own services with small congregations who we remain happy to cater for.  How would you feel if you were told you couldn't worship at your own church (or play games on your favourite site or take the antibiotic that you know works for you?
