How sleepness nights work

I thought this would be a useful guide to exactly why I can't sleep.

~12.30 am:  turn off computer.  Check blood sugars:  3.9.  That's minutely below the recommended 4-7 range, and since my sugars never drop during sleep, I figure it's good and safe.
~ 1am:  am in bed with light off.  This is pretty early for me at the moment, and should give me a good 8 hours sleep if I wake up at 9.  Set my alarm for 10 just in case.
~7.15 am:  wake up.  No particular reason why.  I go to the loo (some of the cause), do some physio (high blood sugars cause thick sputum, so lungs are somewhat thick) and check my blood sugars - 8.7.  Although above the ideal range, 8.7 is well within the 7-10 "nothing much to worry about limit".
~7.45 am:  try to get back to sleep.
~10.00 am:  doze off.
~10.25 am:  alarm wakes me.

What happened in those 2 hours?  I couldn't relax.  A lot of it seemed to be the tension in my diaphragm.  I tried stretching it and I think I did a little good, but that also moved some sputum which I had to cough up.  To a certain extent I woke myself up moving around earlier, but there wasn't much I could have done about that.  They were all essential tasks!  I suspect that if I had taken a small amount of insulin at that point, it would have helped but frankly, being too bouncy at 8.7 is just wrong.

Tonight I try taking some medium-acting insulin (assuming it is still in date) and seeing if that balances my sugars better.  I'll also have another go at my **** diaphragm.

*sigh*
