The Anti-Tuesday Post

May 06, 2003 15:34

Apathy assuaged, I shall now attempt to cover all the topics I've meant to post about since last Thursday.

Chances of covering all the subjects without forgetting any major point: not good. Chances of covering a fair portion of said topics in any sort of entertaining or enlightening manor: slim to nil.

All in all, odds I can live with.

Easily the most interesting part of this post )

( By some stretch of the imagination, should anyone be in the greater Chicago area the last weekend in September, you're more than welcome to come.)

What, you think I'm going somewhere?! The only reason I wouldn't be there is if the twins are born the week before that.

Obnoxious advances

I should be so lucky! ;)

Our other qualm with Friday evening stemmed from yet another round of "Marriage is a Prison" with Kari and I as contestants.

*stares* That's... just... really bloody RUDE. I'm sorry, but how can anyone but you and Kari know whether or not getting married is the right decision? It's no one else's business. And I mean, I haven't met either of you yet, but the way you talk about her... I haven't seen many people that happy about getting married or their intended. Maybe I just don't know you well enough, or else maybe those people don't. Regardless, they are insensitive fools who need to fix their own problems, not attempt to fix others' problems that don't even exist!

You will of course be receiving the more personal invitation i.e. "hey you wanna come?"

Yes the "don't get married" diatribe is quite unbelievably rude, and yet I can almost guarantee I'll have to sit through it a good 3 or 4 more times before October.

The worst part about that particular time was the woman (whom I work with) actually prefaced her talk to Kari with, " I love Corey and all, he's great, but..." That's the point where her ass came very close to seeing the business end of Kari's foot.

I haven't seen many people that happy about getting married or their intended.
That is unbelievably sweet. Thank you.

W00t! I get a personal invite cuz I am speshul. >:D<

And that whole thing is just... people are rude. Bleh. I hope none of those people are invited to the wedding. -.-

It is merely the truth, sweet or not. :D

Dearest Morri,

Your delightful presence is requested to celebrate in the pre-nuptial debauchery of Mr. Norman J Picklepuss and his beloved Kari. Festivities shall commence at the afternoon hour at the fine old eSkape entertainment hullabaloo, purveyors of fine astro bowling and laser-simulated combat, Saturday, September the 28th, in the year of our Lord, 2003.

This soiree will undoubtedly be considered the gathering of he season. It would not be complete without you.

We do so humbly wish you shall attend.

Yours,
Norman J.

Wow, sounds like a great weekend. I love your depiction of the "tweeners". You are really good with describing people and situations. Good on you for not gossiping too.

"Marriage is a Prison" -- *snicker* I guess it would be funnier if they were kidding, right? How sad that they're not. How often do you end up playing at this? Actually, it sounds like the opposite of the Bridget Jones "Smug Married" type.

Oh, and I could beat you at bowling. >:D

Thanks for the compliments. I wish I was stronger on the no-gossiping more often.

The Bridget Jones analogy is pretty accurate. And even though they are always serious, it's still funny. (Apparently only Kari and I are laughing though.)

I've no doubt you could beat me at bowling. You won't of course.

Actually I had not bowled in quite some time before that night (Kari and I have never bowled together). At my pinnacle, I was at best mediocre. That still won't help you.

Hello! I have to say, being a previously married person...that only YOU know if the decision is right for...and how DARE the bitter, blissless, masses try to warn you off of a decision that is differnt for everyone. Just because mine didnt work, doesnt mean it's doomsday for the rest of the world. That is so horrible. Dont let those bastards make you flinch or doubt your decision...ever.

I have had withdrawl all week from you and my sister. Its just terribly difficult not to log on and see how you guys are doing. *sighs* but i must adjust because it is a better job, and better place.

I envy your trip into "the city" to Murphy's...how cool is that?
Catch ya later gator!

Thank you so much for the support. Do not worry though, neither Kari or I will ever doubt or decision. Hell we've only even waited this long so that we could pay for it all ourselves.

I am so happy that the job is better. You deserve it. Even if it means I must go cold turkey with indigosoul. It's been tough so far.

Our local bowling alley opened, ooh, about ten years ago. They ran a promotion for a while where between midnight and 2am on Saturday morning they played loud music, turned the lights down low and charged halfway sensible prices for a change. You got shoe hire, two games of bowling and free food (a little burger, a little drink and a few fries) for £5. Normally that would set you back something like £8-10 these days. It was cool.

Downstate, bowling normally cost about $1.50 for shoe "hire", and $1.50 for each game. Food was never included in my experience.

Up here is obviously more expensive. At eSkape, the rate was $26 per hour per lane (up to 6 people per lane). I assume that for quality bowlers, numerous games in an hour may be possible. Still I doubt any group of 3 or more could get in more than 3 games in an hour. Admittedly our game was quite leisurely paced, but it still cost adamcollins a good $24. That's 4 games down state. Anyone wishing to intone "highway robbery" would not be considered crazy. Don't remember on the shoes, probably in the $3 range, which fits.

OK, I've just checked. Current prices are £2.60 for an adult game off-peak and £3.80 for an adult game off-peak, with free shoe hire. There definitely have been alleys which offered per-hour lane hire, but ours doesn't any more. Boo.

It sounds like a good weekend all around aside from the weird Marriage=Prison bit.

I've seen that particular game in person already and always found it to be completely rude, and unbelievably ignorant.

I'm in awe of your's and Kari's ability to not just go off on these people.

at a positively thrifty $4 per bottled beer

I think I would have made that one bottle last all night.

Well we do get offended, but the main woman involved is usually quite fun. She's one of my better friends in the office and she thinks Kari is wonderful (most people do). So she gets a fair amount of leniency, especially in a social setting.

The husband, also a good guy if a bit of a fuddy-duddy, usually keeps his diatribe more in the humorous "nudge, nudge-ready for the ol' ball and chain" area. He is just pitied.

That said, I'm tired of it. If I hear it again at work, somebody's going to spend their afternoon hopping around with my foot in their ass.

Really, anyone who would pull that crap on us obviously doesn't know us well at all. I'm sure adamcollins can back me up on that.
