I forget how to do an LJ cut, so I appolize if you have to scroll a bunch

It's been a while since I've posted a round of iTunes shuffling -- otherwise known to some as spazTuning. Believe it or not, even though I haven't posted anything music-related in quite a while, I'm still into the music and listen to new stuff. Hooray for music!

I've got plenty of diverse stuff on my hard drive so it should be interesting to see what comes up. I wonder what kind of mood iTunes is in tonight....

Here we go!

1. Mount Eerie - No flashlight
Eerie is right. If I close my eyes during this song, I think I'm out in the woods after dark on a humid summer night. I don't know why, it's just the way it is.

2. Human League - Almost Medieval
I didn't even know I had this song. It's like I'm listening to it for the first time. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought this was a new indie synth pop Toronto band. um, but I do know better.

3. Basia Bulat - Snakes and Ladders
I listened to this CD a lot over the winter. It was good winter music, but this is a good song in general. Strings and piano and an upbeat tempo -- good stuff.

4. Talking Heads - Born Under Punches (live)
2 minutes in and they're still just jamming. It's decent, groovy jamming, but I'm too impatient right now for jamming. I'm not sure I'll make it all the way through this 8.5 minute track. I'm not a big fan of jamming, y'know?

5. The Unicorn Feather - You're Invisible Now
I'm not sure where this came from, probably something I downloaded from an MP3 blog. It's catchy enough, but a bit forgettable upon first listen so maybe that's why I've forgotten about it.

6. Spiritualized - Let it Flow
Wow, I haven't listened or thought of these guys in ages. This song flowed nicely from the last one, so much so that I almost didn't notice it was a different song, I thought the other one just slowed the tempo down for a bridge or something. This song has a lot of whoa-whoas, which is nice. Why do I think I should get high now? Hey, is this song ever going to end?

7. Ben Folds - Not the Same
This Ben Folds CD completely defines a particular time in my life. Any time I hear a track from it, I'm instantly taken back to 2001, just after I graduated from University and was spending a summer wasting in Montreal, looking for work and kicking around the city. I was reading Shampoo Planet at the time when I got this CD, so it's also the soundtrack to that book in my mind. Man, all I can think about is one weekday afternoon when I was walking around downtown, and I got on the 24 bus to go home instead of taking the metro because I wanted to look out the window. Total flashback.

8. The Postcards - Hey Girl
I thought this was the Lucksmiths at first. This is totally some c86 stuff, and it makes me wish I was going to the IndieTracks festival in the UK this summer. Oh, I like that little twang at the end -- nice.

9. Echobelly - The World is Flat
I have an echobelly CD on my computer (obviously) but I never listen to it and I really should because I really love her voice. This track seems a bit blah, but it's still pretty enough.

10. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Phenomena
I don't think this song has anything to do with the Dario Argento movie, but that'd be cool.

11. The Jam - Start!
Oh this is classic. I don't know what to say about it. "And what you give is what you get" is such a beautifully simple lyric.

12. Caribou - Hello Hammerheads
This song is gorgeous, and I think my favourite part is the humming. It's fun to hum along to. I do wonder though why the protagonist in the lyrics left the girl...maybe it had something to do with her having a head shaped like a hammerhead sharks. Speaking of Hammerheads, they are amazing creatures! I watched that documentary Shark Water just the other week and the part when he's swimming with hammerheads totally blew my mind!

13. Talking Heads - Air
It was bound to happen that there would be band repeats because iTunes likes to do that, but this is kind of annoying because I'm not in the mood for Talking Heads. Byrne's voice is really bugging me right now.

14. Seasons - Neil Halstead
Another CD I don't listen to enough. This is the perfect time to listen to it too because it's totally a springtime CD. I think I like this solo CD better than any Mojave 3 album I've heard.

15. Wolf Parade - I'll Believe in Anything
I'm just listening to the lyrics closer now than I have before and I've never realized how sweet this song is. It's totally sweet and I never thought of it as a love song before; I think it's sad, but still a sweet love song.

16. Venini - Mon camion
Another one I have no memory of that's probably from a blog. It's (mostly) French and it's pretty catchy. I see I have another song by them so this song was good enough to make me check out more.

17. Yo La Tengo - Almost True
It's almost true that it's just not a shuffle session without a Yo La Tengo appearance.

18. Neutral Milk Hotel - Two-Headed Boy
I prefer not to think too much about the meaning of this song and just enjoy it. I still often enjoy NMH. I used to use them as a test on new people. There was no pass or fail, I just like finding out who is familiar with them, and if they're not familiar, I like hearing what their first impressions are.

19. Seachange - Seven Calls
Oh good, it picks up from the intro and is a lot better than initally promised. I'm losing steam now, thank goodness the last song is coming up.

20. Of Montreal - Faberge Falls for Shuggie REMIX
Not a bad song to go out on. This song is totally weird and that's not bad. It's just weird enough that it's almost over the top, but still completely listenable.

Yeah, so that's it for now I guess. That was an okay round, I think. Nothing too crazy popped up, and I didn't have to do any skipping because of something embarrassing. I hope I didn't bore you too much (if you bothered to read it all). Oh look, and it's done just in time for me to go watch The Mole. I liked that show back when Anderson Cooper was the host, I wonder how the new version will be.
