Pacemakers are great- my cousins' grandpa has had one for over twenty years and it's held up and kept him from having any heart issues. The wonders of modern medicine...

I just looked at your pics on facebook, and your girlfriend is gorgeous. You're so lucky you found your perfect match in such a small group of people! I'm so happy for you- after everything you've been through with girls, you deserve to have a joy-filled relationship.

I don't know if this makes you feel any better, but I know people who are going through all of pharmacy, medical, dental, or law schools on loans and are ending up over $100,000-200,000 in debt by the time they're done. Doctors make a lot, but some of those other professions don't necessarily. Debt is kind of a rule of thumb these days- it's not so bad if you work out a plan to pay it slowly over time. My mom always says, think of it as an investment, or as buying the job that you want. Since the program is so great, it sounds like you have made a wise investment.

My family is in shaky times too- my dad recently was "asked" to retire from GM, and my mom is still working there but might get forced out soon too. My dad has a pension for now, but if things at GM get worse and they go bankrupt, he can kiss that and our health insurance goodbye. After busting his ass for over 30 years, more than 12 hours a day a lot of the time, he might end up with diddly squat. It makes me really angry.

Good to hear from you- keep writing when you can!
