So yah, time for some Fat Princess ramblings...

I freaking adore this game. It's definitely well worth the money and it's freaking cheap. Well, only because it's a downloadable game.

In anycase, as much as I adore it, there are a few gripes I have with it. But it's not so much the game itself that I have a problem with. It's the other players. Which does not bode well, because the whole point of the game is to work with other people to achieve your objective (be it to rescue the princess or whittle the opposition's morale down by capturing outposts).

My first gripe was with a select few of the hosts. I can honestly say that I've never gotten myself kicked/banned from games because I've never done anything to deserve it. I've always played as well as I can with whatever class I choose and I never do jerky stuff like bomb my castle doors and stuff. But I get fucking pissed off if I get banned BECAUSE I play well. I have been rage banned several times because, I don't know, I suppose I've defended the princess TOO well. I don't get it, the whole point of having an opposing team is to make it harder for you to take the princess back, right? So what's the point in kicking me out because you're having a hard time getting her back? Surely that defeats the point of teams and the developers should just change the game into "retrieve the princess from the middle of the forest as soon as you can although there are no enemies around"?
I fucking love games which end up in a stalemate situation. It kinda proves how good each team is at attacking/defending and it kinda makes it more exciting when the five minute countdown starts because each team gets more and more desperate to get their princess back. Am I the only one who thinks that???
I kinda have a fix for this. Use the same idea as the whole nominations thing from L4D. If the host suggests to kick/ban a player (e.g. player x from blue team), the rest of the blue team have, say 30 seconds, to decide if they should be kicked/banned. That way, if the host wants to kick the good players from the opposing team, the teammates (the actual people who work with the person and see how he/she plays) are the ones who actually decide if they deserve it or not.

Time to move onto my next point. Team switchers. Now, I have no problem if people switch to even the teams out, it's just to make the game fairer and is what I do when people leave at the end of games. But I fucking hate it when people switch from the losing team to the winning team straight after one game. Lets face it, everyone does it and it makes the game really boring, really fast.
The solution? Find someway of forcing an even amount of people on both teams (so, say there are 20 people in a game, force 10 people on each team) then randomize who is playing where after each game. This gets rid of the pretty much 100% chance of people all switching onto one team and just playing against 1 person + 15 computers. *cough* I HAVE been in that situation and I can honestly say, they never laid a finger on the princess while I was a ranger. I may have lost in the end based on average points, but it was a moral victory.

Next,  I have a really bad gripe with the way you join a game. I know that the system joins a new player on the red then the blue team, but this only works on the assumption that people actually stay for the entirety of the match. I have joined games where I get thrown onto the blue team, which is packed with people, while the red team is left with a small hand-full of people.
If the developers could find someway of making new people join the team which has less people, it would make matches fairer and more fun for the people who are on the team with less people. This is kinda related to the point I had before, but this is specifically for when people join mid-match.

One final thing is the filter for "Find a game". I don't have a problem with it REALLY, but it would be nice if I could specify the number of people that are playing in a game. I'm pretty sick of finding games, only to see that I've joined one which can only host 6 people. I only manage to join games which host 32 people out of luck or through the people I have on my friends list.

Wait, I have just remembered another two things, which can't really be fixed because they're mainly to do with the fact that people are idiots. First is bad priesting. I fucking hate it when people become priests and just use the dark priest. I'm a fucking warrior on my very last bit of heart, please, heal me a little bit so I don't have to wait five seconds, respawn back at the base and have to make my way over here again! I fucking rage when the priest runs past me, only to be killed in the face by a bomb/shotgun, then the same happens to me. Really, both of us could've avoided that by YOUR HEALINGS MEH.
And I fucking love it when I jump in to take the princess. Imagine this: the enemy have both princesses, the countdown is going very quickly and there are a few seconds left, you're a worker and you have priest with you. Even if you don't rescue her, you just need to lift her to give the rather large team of warriors and mages behind you some time to get to the enemy base. The priest next to me? Why yes, he healed me. That is, up until the point where I jumped in to pick her up, at which point, he switched and started using the dark priest. The fuck?! I'm no meat shield, I'm fucking trying to win. "I offer her to you! Please, just leave me alone, as I stand here on this cliff where none of you can reach me unless you go all the way out of your base and up the bridges!" We lost because of your ridiculousness.

Second, I dislike people who do rushes very early on in the game. I fucking hate these. I myself have never participated in these (although there was those three matches, but that will be explained below) because people tend to do it for the points to make themselves have better titles (which sucks, a game should never be about your ranking). Obviously, there is really no solution for this because it's the players who decide how to play the game.

Now to explain the time I went for a quick gank (yeah, I don't really call them rushes, I like calling them "quick ganks"). I was originally on the blue team, who were consistently winning game after game. Obviously, people started to leave/switch teams so I chose to switch to the red team to mix things up a bit. After a few matches, the game eventually became a 16-vs-5 people match because the blue teams were doing quick ganks. A guy that added me onto his friends list (I have no problem adding randoms to my list, especially if they can get me into 32 people matches) joined my losing red team and played part of a game. I was going to make this my last game, but then he started calling the red team retarded and saying how stupid we were (yes, the best way to win is to insult the 5 people and 9 bots you're playing with).
"Oh my god, the red team is so retarded. I can't stand them, I switching to blue. They're so fucking useless, YOU NEED TO GET THE RESOURCES!" Another dick on the blue team was a bragger and replied "Yeah, come join the blue team, we haven't got retarditis like those guys!"
I got pretty pissed at this and, coupled with the fact that I've seen this guy play and he has never once gone to the resources outpost, I decided to go for a quick gank. I got on my mic and told the other guys to pick up worker hats, build the doors and we'll rush in because I wasn't going to lose to an asshat who played half a game and has a hissyfit when he loses.
When the countdown timer went and we won, the fuckers had nothing to say. Yeah, you sons of bitches, we fucking beat your ass a second and third time, didn't we? And then what happened? Your retartitis-free teammates switched, didn't they? Fuckers.

But since then, I've never gone for a quick gank. If I do, I never really try and I just do it to distract them while my team go for the resources outpost. I usually hold the princess and jump around in their base, throwing then catching the princess again. I love being an irritation as a villager. Nothing is more satisfying then seeing an entire army of workers/warriors trying to kill me as my team mine the steel then scatter like cockroaches when they're done.

I can't wait for New Pork to be released. I've watched the PAX video on the dev blog and it definitely looks like my kind of map. Lots of secret ways, lots of things going on, lots of sneaking and lots more new stuff to do! I just hope that it's released very soon.....

Hmmm, food smells good. We're having roast pork with crackling.

games, rant
