I dread going to the takeaway on Fridays. I hate the drive up there, I hate the fact that my knee feels like it's going to give up on life on Friday and Saturdays because I'm on my feet for so long, I hate the house we have there, I hate the people I see, I hate the town, I hate it. Fucking hell, I despise that place. When it comes to Monday night, I get very happy because I know I'm going to be back in London by about 12:30am.
Anyways, my sisters and I went to Las Iguana's new restaurant in Spitalfields market. It was friends and family night on Tuesday and Wednesday so we went last night to check it out.
We were invited because our brother is the manager there so we thought we might as well go. Walked in and was pleasantly surprised. There was a nice atmosphere, although the music was perhaps a little loud (we felt like we had to shout at each other to have a conversation). Unfortunately, BECAUSE we were intoduced as "the manager's sisters", I felt we got slightly special treatment. I kinda saw everyone's faces and it was like they dropped a ten ton shit in their pants -_-'
Anyway, our waiter dude introduced himself and was very nice and friendly, asking us how we were every now and then, while not being too intrusive (when my brother introduced us to him, I didn't catch his name. He then introduced himself and I still couldn't catch it. It was something similar to Artois.... As in, Stella Artois.....)
It felt kind of awkward though. It was quite empty when we arrived so the waiters had nothing to do and were just hanging beside our table. It kinda made us feel a little weird because I don't really like it when people are just buzzing around us. Like they were waiting around us on hand and foot.
In anycase, we ordered our drinks. Because they were 2 for £1.50 (or something like that), I ordered a raspberry cooler with my eldest sister ordering a citrus cooler. My other sister ordered a martini and raspberry cooler.
We actually misinterpreted the wording. It was actually "order a drink and you get a second of the same drink". In total, we drank 4 raspberry coolers, 2 citrus coolers and 2 martinis.
Meh, no biggie. The raspberry coolers were nice but the citrus coolers. I think I would kill just to have another one right now....
I think our waiter was kinda nervous to be serving us because he spilt one of the drinks :S Kinda felt sorry for him, I saw his face go red XD But they cleaned it all up very quickly and he ended up apologising for it again and again.
So we ordered starters. I ordered the Gambas (four prawns with lemon and chili sauce with bread), eldest sister ordered the Calamari (again, I would kill for another plate) and my other sister ordered the Serviche (yellowtail and some other stuff I can't remember). All was just so yummy! The prawns were yummy, although one was little smaller than the others and perhaps too much bread, but it was a great starter. The Calamari had a great sauce on top and was perfectly cooked. The yellowtail was so good! I have nothing bad to say about it.
After much taking the piss out of my fingerbowl and telling me to drink it like soup (XDDDD), we got our mains. I ordered a medium-rare sirloin grill with their fries and salsa, eldest ordered the mixed paella and other ordered the chicken chimichanga. We also got two sides just to try out; patatas bravas and fritas.
I didn't particularly like the chimichanga, nothing was wrong with it and it was all cooked well, I just don't like refried beans. Paella was very nice, well cooked and generous portion. My sirloin.... Y. U. M. I love medium-rare and it was so good, I wolfed it down as neatly as possible (not possible). It came with some ovened cherry tomatoes and rocket. I ate a few of the tomatoes but I'm not a huge tomato fan so I ate most of the rocket. I think I would happily eat a whole plate of those fries that came with the sirloin. I would be happy even if it was JUST the fries, they were that good. They were on par with the fries we got from Bodeans (the ones from Bodeans had some chilli in them :D) from months ago.
By then, everyone started pouring in and the waiters were no longer hanging around our table. We finished our mains and moved onto the desert. My eldest sister said that she was bursting and couldn't face desert so it was just me and my other sister. We ordered a trio of sorbet. One scoop of mango, strawberry and lemon sorbet on a very long plate. When it arrived on our table, the mango looked like it had a fight with the strawberry and lemon and ran to the other side of the plate :S It was decorated with three raspberries, tow of which were gobbled by my sister -_-' But I managed to steal one and it was nicely ripe and sweet with that tiny tang. You can't really go wrong with lemon sorbet, but the mango was the best out of the three. The strawberry was nice but the flavour wasn't as strong as the other two.
Altogether, our bill came to a total of £86.28, which really isn't a huge hole in the wallet for three people ordering so much food. And what with it being a friends and family night, we got a discount of £15 per head (as long as they order a main). Jesus, that meant my sirloin was practically free.
Breakdown of the whole bill:
1 citrus cooler£ 2.701 margarita£ 4.902 raspberry cooler£ 6.001 gambas£ 5.501 calamares£ 5.001 seviche£ 5.801 patatas bravas£ 3.001 fritas£ 3.001 chicken chimichanga£ 9.901 sirloin grill£15.501 mixed paella£10.901 trio of sorbets£ 4.50Optional service charge£ 9.58Total£86.28Discount£45.00TOTAL SPEND£41.28
My meal probably came to a total of around £30 for a three course meal with two drinks, but with the discount, I only really paid for my drink, desert and maybe part of one of the sides.
We finally got our waiter dude's name at the end of the night and quickly scrawled it down on the sheet. His name was Arturo (I was close...) Thank goodness his name was on the bill, otherwise, we may never have known what the hell it was....
We were there for a couple of hours and it was a great time. A few improvements here and there and it would be a great night out to dinner with a few friends. Although next time if I go back, I don't intend on introducing myself as "the manager's sister".....
He apologised once more when we left the restaurant.
We got Mario Kart Wii. It's fun, but no moreso than the other MK games. But I'm finding the Team Races fun, my sister get very aggressive. *cough*KartRage*cough*
