I love going to musicals. Yesterday, I went with my parents and aunt to
The Drowsy Chaperone. I enjoyed it but I probably wouldn't pay to go see it again for another decade or two. (But if it's free at the U, why not?) I liked the mocking of the musicals and enjoyed the music (though not the lyrics as much.) The plot (which was mocked in the performance), sometimes painful puns, and tap dancing made me cringe at some points.
However, the "pastry chefs" (and their several sets of argyle socks) made it all worth it. Even if most of the bad puns were theirs. The Chaperone herself had some really fun quotes. ("Isn't it a bit too early to be drinking?" Blank stare. "I don't understand the question.")
I loved some of the costumes too. Flapper dresses, nylon (maybe?) robes edged with feathers, and guys in suit vests? Fun, fun, fun!
I kept thinking though how awesome it would be to see the play with John Barrowman playing Robert Martin. (But that may be just the fangirl in me. I blame Hilz.)
(And for tonight)
Ah, the lovely sound of
"Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis. Go Blackhawks! Not that it means much with just one goal in the game in the first period. It's funny to watch the game downstairs with my parents watching it upstairs. We both have different reason to stop the Tevo and we are at different spots of the game. So sometimes I get a preview of what is going to happen or hear (they are LOUD fans) them a bit behind. I almost thought we got a second goal thirty seconds after the first one but it was just them cheering for the first goal.
And then a second one happens!
Correction, now there are three Blackhawk goals. (I am typing waaayyy too slow today.) And the Flyers goalie pretty much kicked the second one in. Ouch. I actually feel sorry for Leighton. Or at least I will if the Blackhawks win. Otherwise, I'll just find it funny.
